Lock up switch

Lock up switch
I,m thinking about getting a lock up switch for my truck but I have a few questions about it.
1: Does it stay locked all the time or does it unlock by itself to shift?
2: Does it lock in all gears?
3: Is this something that i can install myself in my garage?
4: Is it hard on the tranny?
5: And finally how much are they and where do I buy one?

my lockup switch was only the cost of the switch and the resistors. you have to unlock it coming to a dead stop. my friend installed mine im not good with wiring. I dont know if I would install one on the stock converter thats up to you. I use mine mainly to lock up at about 45mph or so or just to lock it up to play. as for a stock transmission I dont think it would be good on it but im no tranny guru

I have a couple questions about the lock up also because I am interested. I know you can't manually lock it up intil your in 2nd gears completely right? Then when you let out of the throttle you can disengage the switch correct? Say if I were going down the road at 45mph and I flipped the switch what exactly would happen at a cruising speed like that?? The truck wouldn't downshift and take off would it? It would kind of just lug and take off from that gear?

Yes, once the switch is on it is locked and stays locked
2: Does it lock in all gears?
All but 1st gear
3: Is this something that i can install myself in my garage?
Yep, easy to do
4: Is it hard on the tranny?
Yep, very hard on a stock trans
5: And finally how much are they and where do I buy one?
Radio Shack or about any Automotive store should have single pole single throw switch. The resistor is a little harder but Radio Shack has them also.
