Let's talk toolboxes
Been lookin around the last few weeks for a toolbox for my bed. I don't need/want a huge one, just one that can carry the basic tools we need, bungees, hitches, chains, wrenches, ect. I have a short box, I know I will lose bed space, not really an issue. I have seen some at Tractor Supply that look like they are "low profile", they are only a few inches high off the bed rails, and are actually only about 14 or 16 inches deep, which is perfect, because I would like to find one that is as light as possible. Who's got what? Diamond plate, smooth, black, white... TIA

I have a delta diamond plate that is only 2" high off the bed. I needed a low profile one to clear the fifth wheel. I paid $179.00 at checker auto parts. I works perfect and I love it.

triplenickle, I have one of the diamond plated (not black) low profile boxes you are talking about from tractor supply in my 2004 shortbox. I like it, has plenty of room for me to carry what I need to, it doesn't sit all the way down onto the bed so I can still carry lumber or whatever without having to worry about not having enough space, and where it is low profile, I still have an un-obstructed view out the rear window. I don't think you can go wrong with a low profile box. Just my .02 worth.

I also got the low-profile delta from TSC, in blk diamond plate, aluminum. Have no complaints at all. Like the low-profile look, box is definitely big enough for tools and such that I need, without taking up too much bed space.

what ever you get / get the gull wing style as opposed to the single door . the single doors that go all the way from side to side are hard to close.
another option is the boxes made to fit behind the wheel well and go back to the tailgate. these have drawers in them that slide out to the end of the tailgate --real easy to access and still leave a full 4 ft width for sheeting ect.

herb, you dont like the single doors? Thats what I have, never had any trouble getting it closed/latched.... I like being able to put long items in without having issues with trying to slide something in at an angle because of other items in the box... ymmv, I guess...
