I made that mistake for all of us. My biggest problem is that I run alot of gravel and it coated my intercooler tubes with fine white dust. Hated doing that to a engine, screw K&N. And yes it was properly installed.

I do HotShot. I know a lot of people in the business. Like 90% of them run Dodge's and 90% of them use K&N. They haven't had any problems. Some of the rig roads I travel speed limit is 10MPH & you cant even do that cause of the dust that comes rolling in behind you. As you may of read in my other post I just had to replace my engine, tranny & clutch. My intercooler was clean as a whistle.
I'm not trying to sell anything or rub anybody wrong. Just plain truth.

Are you looking at the K&N E-0776? This is the one I have, and it's huge! Just cleaned it after running it for 12 months, and it looks brand new, a light oiling, and it was ready to go for another 12 months. With the stock filter, I would pull the filter minder down too easily, with this K&N it hasn't starved for air 1 time.
Don't get worked up with all the K&N haters on this website, most of it is stories about their brother in law having or aunt having problems. In fact I see more posts about people having problems with the other foam filters (their own experiences) so take it for what its worth.
Hint: Call Kragen and ask if they have the filter in stock, ask for a discount since you phoned it in and recieve 10% off.

I've never had any issues using K&N Filters. I dont have one on the Diesel, but had one on my old 1500 gasser, and use them on my ATV's & SxS's.. I'm running K&N Pods with a pre filter on my Banshee which i use strictly at the dunes, and have never had an issue with sand in the carb....

check the vanes on your turbo.

I had a FIPK, and my turbo was always dirty, i had to take a tooth brush and clean it off.

maybe i was oiling it too much,
but who cares? I just use a stock air system now.
easy enough to leave it alone

report back to us on how clean your turbo is in 3 months.

I'm running a True Flow now. I had a AFE Dry and too much dust got through. Now the tube and turbo look alot cleaner.

I ran the K&N, the huge one, in the stock box for the first 40K and it worked fine. I have replaced it and the stock intake with the Volent cold air system and love it, the increased power and hearing my turbo. I like the design of the S&B cold air intake as well, very similar. I would skip the filter and change to intake, if you have an extra $300 or so.

couldnt agree more. I have the same K&N also and love it, I could not find a good deal on ebay so I found a discount coupon here: K&N E-0776, or you can try one of the vendors on the forum here, you can usually find a good deal that way as well. This was very easy to install. good luck

A little filter oil on the impeller never hurt anything. And if you can "see" dirt in the intake it's probably getting in somewhere "around" the filter, not through it. The damage caused by poor filtration won't be seen until after the engine's torn down, and you won't ever know it's happening without an oil analysis. That's where the Si ends up, in microscopic particles that pass though everything including your oil filter, chewing up your bearings, rings and valve seals.

Not a K&N hater, just realistic. They're fine for dirt toys and racing, but not over-the-road vehicles.
