Just switched from post turbo to pre turbo

After driving around with my EGT gauge post turbo for about a year I finally decided to change it to pre turbo. Went out and got all the tools except the high heat anti sieze(coulnd't find it). Got the drill, shop vac and pen magnet out and went to work. Took about an hour and no problems. Don't get me wrong, I was nervous taping the hole and when it came time to screw in the gauge. It all worked out. The only wierd thing I noticed is that I had to have the probe set at the length I wanted it at when I started screwing it in because the probe would not adjust, almost like it was too tight after the main screw was in. I put the probe in about 1 inch between # 4-5 cylinders. Temps have been about 600-700 while doing 75 on the fwy. Hammering it up a hill I can't get higher tham 900 degrees.

It is approx 200 degrees or so higher than post turbo readings. I also noticed the gauge is a little slower moving pre turbo than post turbo. Is that normal? I'm pretty sure its reading correctly...Thanks for all the other posts that gave info on the install......

That doesn't sound right to me. I have both, but my Pre-Turbo is mounted in the manifold down side from the aft cylinders as per Banks. I have seen this temp get up to 1200 degrees while the Post-Turbo was at 800. I can also say that the Pre-Turbo gauge will ramp up real fast but come down much slower than the Post-Turbo.
IMO what you are seeing is NOT correct unless it has something to do with where you mounted it.
There are pics of where the Pre-Turbo Pyro in my members pics

Ok, I swapped out the current gauge with another ISSPRO gauge I had. The number config on the two gauges are a little different. The numbers on the face of the second are a little closer together. Fired up the truck and sure enough the temps are little higher. Needle goes up a little quicker and at idle it stays around 600 degrees where as the old gauge would go down to about 250 degrees which seems way cool for a probe mounted in the manifold....Haven't had a chance to hammer it up a hill yet but I will check the temps numbers when I do to see any difference

Mine usually stays at around 300 degrees while idling. I'm usually at around 5-700 while cruising and when I hammer it I can reach about 1150 degrees. This is all with my EZ on level 5. Towing 4500lbs the other day my temps stayed about the same.

Took the truck on a long ride. Hammered it up the hill and got to 1125 degrees. Cruising it stayed at about 800 degrees (75 MPH flat road)and at idle went down to 450 degrees. My edge is on level 4. I think the other gauge I had was the wrong one for the coupling, electrical box etc. Are my temps about right?

Sounds pretty close to mine and my guage is brand new. They say that if you put your thermocouple in the position where supergewl has his that it will show a hotter temp as the rear cylinders run hotter for some reason. Apparently that is the ideal position but if you're lazy like me you just mount it as far back as you can reach with your drill. You can check my pics too.
I'll trust my guage, it can't be that far off....
