Just Installed My Tranny & Smarty
Well I just installed my ATS Stage 4 tranny (everything but the CoPilot-- I havent got to wire it up yet) and put a Smarty POD on it. I drove it around a while and I noticed somethin... It doesnt seem like I have ANY lowend power??? If i go full throttle from a stop smoke will pour out (without much Pressure behind it) and the truck doesnt feel like its doin much at all.... then after the hesitation the smoke absolutley ROARS out the back and the truck SCOOTS. If i spool the Truck and launch it (2WD because i dont have the front drive shaft on due to broken bolt heads) it slides sideways pretty hard and feels pretty good (not perfect) but it is absolutely pathetic if i dont spool it.
ON A CLOSED TRACK OF COURSE (old airport runway) I ran against a 2005-06 ford powerjoke crewcab with the 130hp bully dog (but he later admitted he was in 4wd) the ford jumps ahead by one to 3 pickup lengths and then i hold with it all the way to 80-100mph (hold with it just behind)... When I ran him i had the smarty on 9 with torque on and everything else on 2 if i remember right... it was just a little embarassing

Something doesnt sound right. Seems like you would have fared a little better with a trans and smarty on 9. He would have pulled you off the start but you should have sucked him up.

Yeah I dunno... It was depressing to say the least... The tranny seems fine shifts good and everything (i do smell burnt fluid but im sure thats just the old crap that was under there) im gona take it to a tranny shop and just have them check it over and see if they can just check it over but everything there seems good.. My truck is a megacab with a 2.5" level in the front and 35's but it has no prob breakin em loose

what else is in your truck? the stage 4 feels a little loose down low...i think its the stall but be aware, those clutch packs in that tranny are not all that strong...third gear is thin so keep an eye on your fluid and watch for excessive wear. i went through mine in 7000 miles. do not have another tranny shop look inside that tranny for any reason. ats voided my warranty for it.
good luck

Took my truck to a tranny shop today, it was leaking tranny fluid from the bellhousing but turns out i overfilled it and its just puking it up a breather
I just dont get it every PowerChoke that ive ran against jumps me off the line HARD (granted last time i raced if i'd have had 4wd i'd have taken em i think)

Something is not right. Play with your settings on the Smarty. Go for max RP when racing. Sounds like your getting maybe too much fuel down low with the new, tighter TC.
How long ago did you install your tranny? Not good on them to put the hurt on early. I always waited till about 5k miles just to get broke in good.
Change the fluid and put the hammer down.

Hmmmm, gonna need to spend some more money to keep up with the Smarty, Turbo, fuel pump, to really get the full benefit from it. What rearend do you have. I beat 3.73 gears, and with those 35' tires your gonna need to go back to stock if you want to race and win or change to 4.10 gears.

The ATS Stage 4 with torque convertor and ATS CoPilot was right around $5600 from XDP
UPDATE:
I switched the smarty to catcher 2 from 7...... It actually seemed better....... it feels alot beter from a stand still (without spooling) it comes to life pretty **** good (but the mid and top end is no where near as good as the higher catcher levels).... on level 7 or 9 when i mash the throttle from a stop theres quite a hesitation (and the black smoke just pours out/not with alot of force behind it)
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this?

You don't have enough fuel to run SW9 in race conditions. Try 5 or 7 and see what you get. The TC is much tighter than stock so it will take a bit longer to spool up but you've seen what it does once it spools. Play with the settings a little and find what works best.

Ive tried it on 7.... with the same effect.... Next i'll have to try it on 5 and see what it does. Is it normal for the truck to smoke alot though on level 2?? just seemed odd

it will smoke alot on the even numbers because you don't have any added timing. You should also have cooler egts with the odd numbers.
