Man, after reading this I am reconsidering buying an airdog, or any other aftermarket lift pump for that matter. I hope you get everything figured out with your truck.

well that's good, at least I'm not the only one that read the whole thread and said to myself "geesh if it's that hard I don't know if I'll be able to knock that out on my own without help," which is how I'm forced to do everything. [duhhh]

did you wire it just like the diagram I posted for the 05+ trucks??
the wire to splice on a 05 is orange with red tracer.....is that what you did???
there is no orange with white tracer listed for the fuel tank module...on a 05????
do you have a fuel pressure gauge??? what's it reading??

this is NOT a hard thing to install[laugh] yes the instructions are not that great...but if you wire it like I posted and plumb it the way the instructions say...you should have zero problems....most these guys posting problems are changing the install procedures...you have to wire it the way I posted....also make sure you are not sucking air some where....did you oil the filter gaskets when you installed the filters???.....did you use diesel safe sealant on ALL the NPT threads??? did you use oil on the pushlock fittings so they dont leak and they push on FULLY seated???
just a few things to check.....

The main difference in the two Airdog wiring harnesses is -

- the oem '03-'04 lift pump is mounted on the fuel filter on the engine, so the lift pump power connector is there in the engine bay - the 'dog harness plugs right into that connector, which controls the relay - the extra wire is not needed

- the '05^ lift pump is mounted in the fuel module in the fuel tank, as is the power connector - the '05^ (and '03-'04 trucks with factory in-tank lift pump upgrade) 'dog harness needs the additional wire for relay control because the oem lift pump power connector is way back at the fuel tank - thus, you'll need to cut the Or\Red wire and splice the 'dog relay control wire to it.
No need to cut any other wires, anywhere.

Make sure you know where your oem lift pump is located B4 you order the Airdog harness

The installation is simple if you simply follow the Airdog instructions -

- don't interpolate
- don't substitute parts because yours are 'better'
- don't leave stuff out because it's 'overdesigned and not needed'
- don't ignore or omit any step(s) because your truck is "special, not like everyone else's", or it will be "not like everyone else's" = everyone else's truck will run and yours won't - and how 'special' is that?

Even a fifth grader could do it, and you're smarter than them........right?

YES your right.....

THE ONLY WIRE TO CUT AND SPLICE IS THE ORANGE WITH RED STRIPE then you hook this wire to the airdog harnesses single trigger wire...

OK, I figured it out and the truck runs AWESOME. My overhead read 25 MPG on my way into work this morning. I know they are always wrong but it used to read 19. So I am optimisitc. Most of the problems I had were self induced. It is correct to say that these installs are not that hard but...2 of the fittings I received did not fit so I had to improvise a little. That was not the cause of the problems. The source of the poor flow was that I had not followed the directions as closely as I had thought. I initially plumbed the return to tank line to the engine and vice versa. Once correted no issues.

While I had the bed off I did reroute vent hoses and the supply line as well as rewire the power the way Willys posted. I feel much better knowing that the fuel pump uses the relay and now my gas guage works. (it is an orange with red wire, I had mistyped)

Having said all of this, I recommend the system as long as you read the associated posts. The directions that are included are of poor quality (Toby has apologized many times). I have a tough time putting words to actions but if I can see a picture I can make it happen. If you can follow word directions you will be money. I know I am dumb as a box of hammers so if you need to bash me to feel better about yourself, have at it.

The bottom line is:

Don't be scared. There are lots of smart people that are willing to help out.

Well that sounds better, glad you got it figured out and even happier I now have renewed confidence. Its always been a fear of mine to buy any aftermarket item to improve the performance/efficiency of a vehicle and ending up hurting the performance and reliability of it. This is why I'm debating how far I want to bomb my truck. All the info on here is a tremendous help though, so thanks to everyone for that.

Everything I have read about these systems tells me that it will only help the truck in many ways. My intent was not to keep people from buying this product. Make no mistake though, if you are a diy guy make sure you read this post and the post by 53 Willys https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...airdog+megacab . If I had done that I would not have made some of the silly mistakes I made. Best of luck!!!

Good fix - and rest assured, my post has no intent to single anyone out, only factual info and humorous precautionary note, based on 50 years of service and customer service experience - if you could see only some of what I've seen, you'd need pause to wonder at our educational and technological world-position.

I did a test run with the electrical today to make sure I had everything correct and the airdog would work. And of course it did. Just plug and play for the trucks with the filter mounted pumps. I already mounted to bracket, to speed the installation process. So tomorrow I will be putting the airdog on and can't wait to test it out.

So what did you do to stop your leaky OEM supply line after disconnected? Is there a cap available for it?

If this hasn't already crossed your mind, I think the hydrostatic pressure of the fuel in your tank is pushing through your OEM pump and up the supply line.

Would teflon tape work on NPT threads or is that not diesel resistant? If not who makes the thread sealant LocTite?
