Jr, Revo or Sr-PoD?

OK,

Gonna console myself over the sale of my sweet 1st gen by getting a Smarty. Only question is which one?

Looks like 3 different versions are available for an '07 5.9.

I've searched and read a bunch but still can't decide. I'm stock for now but it won't stay that way forever. How far I go is anybody's guess. I'm starting a tranny fund and an injector fund as well.... Gonna need both one of these days. Neither is giving me any real trouble right now but I'm sure that is a temporary thing with 107,xxx on the odo.

Any opinions? whose running what and what are the likes/dislikes about it?

TIA!

There are only 2 products for the 5.9 are the Sr and Jr, they both have PoD (as of yesterday). If you buy a used S06 non-PoD it can be upgraded for free.

I like the Jr, it limits you to ~400 rwhp and is great for stockish trucks or for guys who tow. It does have less option than the Sr, but with UDC around the corner you can tweak it how you want, if that's what you decide to do.

Bottom line, if you want more than ~400 rwhp from a tuner then get a Sr, if ~400 from a tuner is fine then get a Jr.

Looks like 4 different choices.......

I'm leaning towards a jr but I really don't want to outgrow it. Of course that possibility is a LONG way off....

2 of those are the same, SSR, and while SSR is an option it's not one I would go with your current and future mods in mind, so I didn't really list it. Its a much different style, and more aggressive tuner, where a dyno is needed to tune properly.

I have had the Jr for 4 years and it took 2-3 of those for me to outgrow SW1, now I run SW3 but I don't really use the power it has.

As you build your truck I would start with a Jr, the less aggressive tq management settings let you get a little better than stock, but not too much. The most aggressive setting on the Jr is the least aggressive on the Sr.

With injectors you can be 450+ on rwhp with the Jr, above 400 your looking at intake/lift pump/studs/etc.. it's a whole other realm of $$$

That is specific to torque management. As far as SW levels

JR = SR
1 = 1
2 = 3
3 = 5

Timing is similar on the 2, but I think the Jr is a little more conservative.

I vote for a Sr. But I'm a little bit of a power junky. It is nice to have it if you want to try it.

I've always thought the Jr would be right for me. Now that EFILive came out, and some of their options for plug 'n play boxes (preloaded AutoCals), I'm having a tough time deciding.

I'm wondering how much better the tunes are for the EFILive since you use your individual truck as the starting point for the tunes. On the other hand, Jrs can be bought fairly cheap. But then on the other side the EFI can always be adjusted for each mod.

Anyway, just wanted to throw a tortilla on your lawn and give you something else to think about

Well, big power is a long way off for me and a box that needs a synonym to tune is out cause the only dyno I have access to up here is in the seat of my pants...

I hear that. The nice thing about EFIlive is you can data log with the V2. No dyno necessary. Which I think is the coolest thing. Kind of like wearing a GPS watch with HR monitor when you go do a workout. You don't need to go do a full PFA, just monitor workouts as they happen.

Anyway, I'm trying real hard right now. I got a little jingle too and it's hard to stay rational

A dyno and data logging produce two very different results. The dyno tells you whats getting to the ground, the data logging tells you what is happening in the ECM, i.e. commanded vs actual information. This is something MADS does for you. Smarty will also have UDC here shortly, which allows for user input into timing/duration/etc.

Exactly - capability to fine tune each truck. THAT is what I like. No two trucks are alike, just like people.

I don't really care what product it is in, I like the idea of the function.
