I've only installed it on my 2nd gen. But FWIW, I would recommend doing away with the quick disconnects on the tank bulkhead and use a 3/8" hose clamp directly where the quick connect mounts. The stock quick connects leak lots of air, making it very difficult to prime the system.

No special tools needed... just a drill, wrenches/sockets, and perhaps a floor jack and a piece of wood to lower the tank a bit, and make access to the connections a little easier.
Be careful when cutting the fuel hose for your supply and return - keep them as short as possible. Or, in the alternative, mount the FASS, and run (or at least mock up) the fuel line from the injector pump back to the FASS. This way, you know you have enough for that run, and you can then cut the remaining hose to the needed lengths for the supply and return lines.
The instructions say that on long-bed trucks, to mount the bracket to the bed mount, instead of the body mount. I found that pretty much impossible to do, and mounted it to the body mount, as seen here:

You can see the failed attempt to drill a hole in the bed mount (to the right of the brake lines). You just can't drill into flat steel at a 30° angle with a hand-held drill

It is a fuel system that bypasses the stock lift pump and filtration system and removes air bubles from the fuel system for a more efficient spray pattern and more reliable pump than the factory one. I have not put a tank full through it yet but noticed an immediate difference in the way the truck sounds and runs. Much smoother power and I have also noticed a bump in fuel economy. I have been doing all city driving this week but will be on the road this weekend and will be able to give it a good test. Here's part of the advertising for it below.
Fuel Air Separation System
Eliminates Power-Robbing Air From Diesel Fuel For:
Consistent Engine Performance
Increased Horsepower
Increased Fuel Economy (Saving 8% or more)
Drastically reduces the effects of "Hot Fuel"
Easier/Quicker Starts
Reduced Engine/Cab Noise
Improved All-Weather Performance
Drastically Reduces/Eliminates Black Smoke
Reductions in NOX and Carbon Monoxide
Excellent Cold Weather Performance
Smoother Idle and Quicker Throttle Response
Extended Fuel Filter Life
