Injector Question

Who out there is running injectors only, no other mods?
How do you like them, better or worse mileage, more power, very noticable, more low end.
Just want a general over view, looking to go with 100 horse injectors, so the dealer cant spot the mod.
any info will help, thanks Joe.

The dealer would be able to tell with a cylinder contribution test, injector flow rates, and Fuel Lbs/Min tests.

The injectors would be closed for wayy to little time.

Your truck will also not be able to provide enough air to keep the motor cool when towing.

Without a "chip" of some sort, you cannot run more than factory boost without the power being pulled back by the computer, therefore, canceling out your bigger injectors.

If you still want to put some bigger injectors, I'm sure somebody has done it before, but in my personal opinion I think it would be a bothersome mod.

Just my $.02

Even if you just go with injectors alone, you are going to need some type of boost fooling device, or you wont notice much difference at all. If I were you I would get an adjustable box to run with the injectors, kill two birds with one stone! I Ran with just injectors, and boost fooling for a while, a couple of years ago. I liked it, but I really love being to adjust power from in the cab, and you just can't do that with injectors alone.
I hope this helps

I have them and there fine without towing heavy items as they do heat the EGT up about 200 degree more then stock. This being stock turbo- chip set low at that time.
High HP injectors look for alot of air and do smoke alot.
Gas MPG went up about 1.5 mpg
Will give you low end but no top as stock turbo can't hang!\
As for me I like mine great HP add on!

I always wondered why vendors always said you have to run a chip of some sort. Makes perfect sense, I guess you really do learn something new every day....

When my OEM injectors crap again, I may throw some 50 hp's in there. In my old 2nd gen I had Bosch 275's and was super happy with them, even w/o the comp box. They just seemed to make the truck much more driveable, I hope the 50 hp's for the 3rd gen will produce the same effect.

When I took deliver of my truck in late winter of '03, there wasn't much of a choice in performance upgrades ......... so I bought the EZ.

Since then I've been sitting back and watching. Mostly waiting for the arrival of the Edge timing/duration contibution. I don't know what I was waiting for, but I was let down in the end. No box has really jumped out and said "come buy me"!

Anyway, the question "why can't I just run injectors" ........ made a light go on!!!!

Okay, the early fueling is too much for the stock huffer, but I can buy a new turbo. Since I'm more into towing than drag racing, this seems way better than any box I've read about.

As far as boxes go, the EZ seems to mimic the stock torque curve more than any other box that I've seen. And, that would give me the boost fooling I'll need. Plus the fact that the extra pressure would give better atomization in a bigger injector.

What makes the timing and duration of an aftermarket box better than stock programming?

For towing in a dually, it seems on the surface, that the injector/turbo/pressure box is better than the high horsepower pressure/timing/duration boxes guys are running in the short wheel base light to light machines.

What am I missing?

I think you nailed it and totally agree. A set of DD2s or 3s and a mild pressure box would make a sweet combo. The truck will still run like it did when it was new and with awesome power for towing. My truck runs nothing like it did when it was new. Not that I'm complaining....it just isn't the same truck and a lot of folks don't like that. They definitely loose their smoothness as you mess with the timing with your BOMBs. The key would be mild pressure of course for injector reliability in the long run. Something like the VA pressure box that is mild, adjustable in the cab, and fools boost when it is turned off (important with injectors). I bet that would be a sweet, smooth running combo. Add aftermarket turbo of choice of course.

It's not that a peaky motor isn't fun in the right truck, it's just that for towing I think that the factory programmed torque curve on steroids would make an awsome tow package .......... and tow is what I do. I think it's cool to see a 12 second diesel powered truck smoke down the chute, but my dually is not a rocket

I just thought this was a pretty good question, and it got me to thinking ......... outside of the plug and play
