Infinity Radio.... changing the head unit

Come on people... I've been looking for an answer to this question for weeks now. Nobody seems to know for sure.

Maybe somebody can steer me to a place that might have the answer.

Changing the head unit on a 2004 truck. There is a separate Infinity amp. What is the best way to do a head unit replacement? Bypass the Infinity amp? Some have said the stock speakers are 2 ohm?

I've been told with the Infinity systems you need to replace everything if you replace anything. Because of this my system is still completely stock.

There is lots of ways...

How much do you want to spend?

Why do you want to replace the head unit?

Lets start there...and discuss you future goals?

I have an infitity system ( stock ) in my truck. I took out the 6 disc head unit and put in a pioneer cd deck. I know the truck has a amp for the factory radio and I am still using it. you just have to make sure you hook up the blue wire from deck to factory wiring to turn on the amp in the truck. I am not sure if the stock speakers are 2 ohm or not.

Check out soundgate.com. They make interface modules for stereo equipment. I would try them and give them a call and see if they have any thing that would work. These guys know what they are doing.

I hear the stock Chrysler head unit is not that great soundwise. My 6-Disk changer jammed and broke. They want $260 for repair.

I was considering just changing the head unit but the more I research it the more I hear it's not so simple. Sounds like the cheaper way to replace the head unit is to use the interface module that mpw8679 suggests.

I hear the Infinity amp does a whole lot with respect to controlling the 7 speakers.

Thoughts?

I swapped out my stock head unit with an alpine 9855 deck, went to wallmart and bought the adapter plug. That was 25k miles back and still jamming, no need to replace what still sounds good. Iv been real surprised with the stock infinaty speakers and amp.
