Inexpensive muffler solutions...

OK I love the sound of straight pipes but on a long haul it just will not do. On the other hand I don't have the $$$ right now to do a full cat back system. So here is my question... On a cat equiped truck what is the CHEAPEST way to get a nice sounding exhaust that I can do on my own or cheaply by a muffler shop?

I wanted to get a magnaflow 4" muffler but they are all 4" on center and the factory system is off center is there a cheap solution to this? Work has not been good this year and I have to watch my pennies for a while but I would like to open up the exhaust a little. Kitty has to stay in place for the warranty.

But I want to hear this thing a little more!!! But just say NO to DRONE!

try a big rig muffler shop. My buddy did his Dmax at one and it sounds great and was cheap.

I went to "big-rig" shop and they said those mufflers are too heavy to mount horizontally... They recommended I use a spark arrestor instead. Going with 5" big-rig exhaust is inexpensive. Anyone else heard this?

I have the MBRP stock muffler replacement and highly recommend it. It's their straight through muffler with an adapter pipe to make up for the offset stock muffler. I think it was around $150. It's a little louder than stock at WOT and at idle. Mostly, it gives the exhaust a nice deep tone, no drone. Hangers are welded on to hang in the stock locations. Very easy install.

That sounds like what I am looking for especially since most of the big rig mufflers are not offset from what I can tell. Where did you get the MBRP stuff???
