I'm ready to start the mods.

OK guys, The truck has about 5K miles on it and I'm thinking of adding some mods. I'm not totally new to diesels but I am new to cummins (love it so far). I'm looking for some advice on where to start with my mods. My big picture is no heavily modded. I occasionally pull a ski boat, about 5k lbs., but mainly its a daily driver.

I've read a lot of threads-- intake and exhaust seem to be first, what do you guys recommend?

I went cheap but effective with my exhaust and put a Donaldson muffler on my factory pipe. Intake I'm running a S&B Intake system which I'm pretty happy with. I've probably got less than $300 in both of them.

I'm glad I did gauges first(kinda) so I could see the differences made with the mods done. Very happy with the Autometer tripple pillar set. EGT, trans temp, and 60psi boost gauge for about $260ish shipped. You will still need a boost bolt and a way to hook into the trans temp..

I called a place here in Oregon called Outlaw Customs. Friend of a friend type of thing. Mainly because I wanted to put gauges in first like you said. He recommended upgrading the trans pan and differentials to an aftermarket brand like mag-hytech. Because of the larger fluid caps and the ability to plug in a sensor for the tranny temp.

So it looks like first is the trans pan-- any thoughts?

I have had dealership issues with my Commander. They were suspicious (kept calling my Commander a "Hot Box"). Even when I explained to them that is was only a digital gauge system (I didn't have a box then), they kept wanting to know why I would want to monitor the FP, RP, EGT's and boost. They were a real pain. It really depends on the dealer. Mine is horrible, but the only other Dodge dealership within 100 miles is even worse...

When I took mine to the dealer, the service writer saw the gauges and commented" Nice that you monitor the engine.?"
