I think I'm going to do it..

I ordered an S&B intake cause it has the bolt on lid. I plan to modify the clear lid with a small baffle so water gets directed around the element, and have a 5 or 6 inch single inlet screwed and glued to it. This inlet will come straight in through the hood. The existing inlet(s) in the box will be sealed, and a big automatic drain will be added to the base..

Also, one of the big reasons I am doing this is I always seem to need to cross deep water, and I just hate having the airbox right up front sucking air near the fender/grill. A lot of water in a diesel motor must make quite a bit of compression..

I like the idea, what better way to get true cold air than to pipe up a short snorkel, or stack through the hood. Better yet, run tubing from the turbo inlet up through the hood, then put a filter housing on the top with the biggest honkin Nanofilter available. Give it a true "tractor" look
