based on that then, I would be leaning towards the BDDL as far as 'bang for buck' power-wise. The highest setting on the Smarty (170) isn't applicable for the 03's (based on their site). I can still find a PowerPup in lieu of a TripleDog....

*sigh....looks like the Smarty isn't the Smart choice for me

thanks for the feedback

I would argue that if you have the time to tune, you can make the same max power with either one stacked with the TST. However, there are options and features that will make one better for the strip, one better for the dyno, or one better for daily driving. I don’t think either one is perfect for all of those, though I do have my favorite.

Taken from their site -

SW's # 8 & #9 for the 03-04 trucks are similar to #6 and #7 but have more fuel down low and even less TQM.

One thing to notice. The power gains with the 03's-04's would be actually higher if we started
from a 235 Hp engine. In poor words, an 03 California truck would end up with the same rear
wheel Hp the 03 6Sp produced. I've used the same settings for the California AT truck that I
used in the 03 6Sp. For the 03 235Hp/460TQ engine the power gain is above 200 Hp.

On my truck I got 176 hp gain on #7 only and it is a 04 but you have to have the air to go with it. The best I got was with the smarty on #7 and TST on 3hp-1tq, 611 hp

Ditto, and a good point. The same thing is true with every programmer though, so nothing special there. For instance, the Extreme BDDL tune consistently lays down 160rwhp gains on SO (250hp) trucks. We underpowered guys definitely get more bang for our buck.

Where the Smarty really shines on the SO engines is Marco did a much better job with torque management programming than Bully Dog has so far been able to accomplish. For us SO guys, torque management is a big problem. The rest of you guys don't have the same TM issues we do, so that doesn't really apply. If you want to daily drive a high HP SO rig, Smarty will make it more enjoyable I think once they tone down the throttle response a little.

As for settings for max power, every truck is different and will like different combinations. I can make a lot more power with a triple stack, each in moderation, than I can make with the BDDL/TST by themselves or the Smarty/TST by themselves. If I remember correctly, programmer on 90hp, EZ on level 3, and TST somewhere around 4/4 makes all out max power for me.

I would'nt reccomend the Bullydog on a 03-04. I went for a ride in LCleary's truck and he "had" the BDDL and took it off in favor of the Smarty. He like it much better.

If he had a 04.5+ yeah get the BDDL with crazy lary but that program isnt avaiable for us 03-04.

Hey Lance if that Spike TV thing is a go you NEED to start a thread and tell these guys what your truck will need.

I think you should look into

*Stacks or single 6" stack so you dont smoke everyone out
*CP3 mods because your probably running your fuel rail dry
*Upgrade your TST with the new features

*Valentine1 radar dectector....I have one and it has saved my butt countless times
*Some dyno time

Dude, I WANT to smoke them all out, sheesh! I definitely agree on the rest of the stuff, though. I have a Bel Electronics Pro detector, and it's every bit as sensitive, if not better than the V1. The only thing is it doesn't tell you what direction to po-po is coming from. Will probably get a V1 and run both - along with a scanner, cb, and jammer.

On another note, I went for some rips around town with the Smarty on #8 (no timing) and the TST on 4/2. Holy crap it is FAST!
