I have Smarty+TST which settings will net most HP

Hey guys I have a friend of mine thats getting ready to race/dyno.

Is truck specs are
2003 SO 4x4
ATS 48re
PDR twins HX40/Ht3B
TST
EZ
Smarty
FASS

I'm letting him try my smarty and we need to know what combo's and levels work the best for either max HP or quickest ET.

I read a few posts but they mainly seem to be for 04.5+

It seems that people have better results with the Smarty on a higher setting and the TST on a lower one. I need specifics since a few numbers off can reslt in +- 100HP.

Can you guys help us out so we dont have to spend all day tuneing and risking getting a ticket.

Thanks

My 04.5 TST w/twins program 2/0, EZ Level 3 and Smarty SW 8 produced my best 1/4 times ever. First time in the 12s. I am having the TST upgraded for timing option and multiple programs. A lot of combos to try.

But like you said most I have seen for racing or full power are running Smarty 8 or 9, TST on the low side and pressure box 50% or less.

Check out posts by AK RAM on here and on cumminsforum.com as he has the SO with twins and uses or has Smarty and TST.

Well I looked through 14 pages on that post and I didnt see any really good settings. More dissapointment then anything. It didnt look like his truck liked the TST-Smarty stack. The best I saw was 13.3 with smarty on 90HP and TST on 3/3??? He had a 12.6et in his sig though

Hey Luken what settings were resulted in your best numbers?

AK Ram is also working out the bugs on a new set of twins and that's why you aren't seeing the great numbers you would expect.
Of course, every truck is different but I can't recall seeing any posts where the user didn't turn the Smarty up and the TST down for the best performance.....

My truck ran best with Smarty on 60 no timing and TST twins 5-2 or 6-2 (try 4-6)....but...that was before I had Timing adjust on the TST.

So it is all back to the beginning again. I also had my mp-8 on 40-50%.

Man it is hard to pass up Crazy Larry and TST with numbers like Luken has for a Smarty and TST, but I guess Smarty and TST could make the same or more with some more time. Also I heard BD CL has caused some ECM problems? One way or another out with Edge HOT, In with TST and Smarty or BD CL. Any suggestions appreciated, I have some time yet before I change.

I currently have a TST/EZ stack...I am seriously considering removing the EZ and replacing it with a Smarty...but now I don't know if I should do the Smarty or the Bullydog, or just leave it alone altogether! The big downside to the BDDL is no CL for the 03's (that I know of)

Any feedback is greatly appreciated

If I had an 03-04.5 I would for sure go with the smarty. I need to put my friends Smarty on and see what happens. Has anyone dyno'ed with just the tst/smarty?

Im having awesome luck with the Bully Dog....

I remember the days when people thought we were crazy for stacking a downloader with the TST.

There are better ways to determine which one is the "better" of the two for you. What happened to computing the HP per dollar between the two, comparing features, and comparing options? After all, if your talking power only, what would your starting point be if you loaded the highest HP level that each one offers? Exactly the same…..check the ratings.

I would argue that if you have the time to tune, you can make the same max power with either one stacked with the TST. However, there are options and features that will make one better for the strip, one better for the dyno, or one better for daily driving. I don’t think either one is perfect for all of those, though I do have my favorite.

So can you clarify here? The Smarty was on Catcher 3? And the TST was on what, 3/3, or 3/1?

Come awn guys, I have the exact same setup as Big Dan's buddy -

'03 SO with PDR twins, TST, EZ, Smarty, Fass, etc... I want to go screw around at Sac raceway, but don't want to waste time trying to reinvent a wheel someone has already done! Help a brotha out!
