I got a ticking noise, Some input please???
Today I noticed a ticking noise coming from the front drivers side. I got to looking and it seems to be coming from the fuel line going to the very front cylinder. I put my hand on it and can feel a pulse going through it and the same time as the ticking. It only does it while idling and if i rev it up alittle bit it gets faster. The truck is mostly all stock besides what i have in my sig. I usually run it on the performance level for the better gas milage and dont really drive it to hard. And it only has 4500 interstate miles on it going from the house to Lafayette La.
I traded in my hemi for this truck and the hemi always had a tick to it and it was just said to be normal opperation for that motor. I know that this is a totally different motor so that probly doesnt mean anything.
This is my first diesel so I might just be paranoid(sp?). I know that they make some noise I just don't know what.
Am I just worried about nothing. Is this normal?
The truck runs fine and I haven't lost any power.

I would check to see if one of the blue clamps to the high pressure lines going to the injectors loose. There was a thread on this site that talked about this. You can also use the search function to for ticking noise.

CouLd be one of your valves on the #1 cylinder you can take a piece of water hose with the metal end and put it on side of the head and check each cylinder for any noises the water hose is like a homemade stethoscope and it works pretty well or just pull the valve cover takes hardly 10 minutes to do and you can check for play in the rocker arms.

All their is their is a flow through feed tube that is basicly a check valve that runs down into the side of the injector. Is it only the first injector feed line making the noise, and can you feel all the injector lines pulsing or just the first one? If you didnt have the triple dog on it id say take it in for warranty work and let it be their problem not yours but good luck getting by the star scan if you do.

The ticking is the injector solenoid and the fuel line will pulse as the injector solenoid opens and closes. If you are not smoking, making oil, and are still making good power....then just keep a watchful eye on it. I've had the ticks before and they either went away or were drowned out by all the other noises. ks
