I got SMOKED! by SRT-4

Well, Ive been talking to a guy for a couple of weeks about running his little neon. He keeps telling me how its faster than people think, and that its a special model or something. To me it looks like a neon with some ricer garb on it! Although it did have a pretty sick sounding turbo on it. Anyway, I figured my truck was getting pretty fast, and this weeked I happed to make a few changes which would give me what I needed! (For those who want to know: I removed the turbo's banjo bolt, or modded elbow I had put on there a while back to give me more boost, and replaced it with a full plug! Then I upped the Bully dog setting to performance)

Than I went and tried it out, which you guys told me not to do ( quad race box on lvl 3 and BDDL on performace). Runs like a STRIPED APE!! ......So my truck is running hard and Im feeling pretty confident that I can of course smoke this neon in a 1/4 or more!

...........Well, I raced him after work, on a real good stip near Where he works, and am remodeling a Grainger he is working at. So basically a race between the General Contractor in his diesel, and the warehouse worker.
All his employees' s even voted against him, which was weird cause I have a 4x4 CTD vs a neon srt-4. So at the strip I turn the Dodge all the way up, put her in 4wheel,gave her some boost, and did a 3 honk start!

Then I smoked his Edit all the way to about 1.8 mile, then he started pulln pretty quick. Then he smoked by me!! He probably beat me by 4 cars or less at the 1/4 or more mark. But I still think it was a good race!!

Your limiting factor is your stock lift pump...you are not putting out more than 100-140 max over stock hp IMHO. A 3000 lb car with 250 hp will spank a 8000 lb truck with 400 hp. You will need 500 plus to win.

That does sound like a good race. But I don't think having it in 4x4 helped any either, besides traction at start. I do have to say though some of you guys have bigger you know whats than me, I would be afraid of breaking something.

SRT-4 with a few good mods and a good driver is a low 13s 1/4 miler. So 13.0s 1/4 is what would be necessary to insure he doesn't catch you.

Or maybe it was the transmission......

How can a stock 48RE handle the BDDL and the Quad box all the way up?

The power is there, but it isn't getting to the rear wheels.

Diagnosis:

Must address transmission before trying to race again.

Well I know, I need a tranny (3-5K$), injectors ($700-1200), and a bigger turbo or twins (?$) right?

........I just didnt think that lil sucker could catch me after I got such a lead!

Should I have shifted out of 4wheel after the start? I heard that was bad. I figured that a good lead would be my best bet?

What would ya'll guess I was running in the 1/4 with my current mods? I know it depends on the driver but, Ive raced dirt bikes for yrs and know i give it a pretty good run. What would be an avg. 1/4 for my truck with the stacks I talked about above and the mods below in my sig?? Also Hp guestamation?

I know of a Neon SRT4 around here with the stage 2 turbo kit...he runs 13.8 in the quarter. My best is a 13.96 when i was running the Juice/EZ stack (check sig for more)..I dumped the Juice...and the BDDL will be stacked with the EZ Monday...and i'm going Neon hunting! this guy is a friend of a friend...we'll have a good time no matter the outcome.

Our 0-60 times are SICK when you get a good 4wd launch....my 0-60 was 6.01 seconds...a stock SRT10 does 0-60 in 5.4.

as far as times go....the best i have done AT THE TRACK is 14.3 1/4 mile, 9.07 1/8 mile with the Juice/EZ stack, 4wd launch at roughly 10psi.

my stack is not even close to yours...but i DO have a tranny and i DO have a FASS pump.

Uhmmmm, in my hood the srt's are running 11.5 to 12.5! Just slightly modified.

You'd stand a better chance against a BMW Z3!

The srt is a pretty hot rod from the factory and modifications abound for these little critters.

Helpful hint: dump the 315's at the track

Yea-been there and done that twice. I have owned 2 SRT4's and I cant remember ever seeing a Diesel that would remotly keep up after the 8th!!! Now with that being said, I have seen a couple Diesels at Farmington that were spanking everything in the 8th. The SRT4 is traction limited until about the middle of 2nd gear stock. My 04 pushing 420whp was traction limited until 3rd. Once moving there was very little that could keep up. It would take a 700hp deisel to keep up considering drag and weight! Good Times though

a stock str-4 is most likely a 14.0-14.2 kind of car. they can be modded to be fast but so can anything.

on a stock tranny 14.0 is moving out in one of these trucks so I think you will need to mod the tranny to think about it. coverter and VB and I bet you take him if he only had 4 cars on you.

he is most likely fairly stock if it was that close. I know my mustang run 13.2 to 13.5 and I just absolutly raped all the diesels that have messed with me so far including my own with the wife trying to race me. I have not run across that fully modded diesel that will whoop up on my car yet. seeing some of the signatures on this board I have been waiting for it though. I am getting my kb twin screw this summer. I don't think I could handle getting smoked by a 7klb truck.

I raced some dude in a 3000gt last night, he lost but I doubt it was twin turbo, regardless it is an ego crusher for him.

I had an '04 srt-4 until hurricane Ivan blew a tree down on it. It was STONE stock, down the the factory air filter element. The best I ever got out of it was a 13.99 at 99 mph. This was on stock original tires. They have some top end alright-they'll go over 150 mph right off the showroom floor. No, I'm not kidding. Those of you familiar with them know what I'm talking about.

Losing to one of those should be no embarrassment. They look riced out, but mechanically, they are not.

You will need a lift pump before you hurt the tranny. You are not getting enough fuel to even utilize the stock fueling at this point let a lone a stack of anything. I'm amazed you aren't feeling a lay down or hesitation in the upper RPM's.
