Is it Hurt?
Hello everybody. Just looking over your sight and I had a few questions of my own. I own a 2004 Dodge 2500 4x4 and it is my first diesel. The valve cover has rated hp to be 325. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, I think this means I have a 2004.5 model. I noticed today that my oil pressure stays near 40 when moving but when I stop it drops to around 20. Is that normal? By the way it is a 6 speed. Thanks for any help and I look forward to learning about what makes me love this truck so much. I just noticed I put this thread in the wrong category. Sorry!!

Do the 3rd gens really drop that low on oil pressure? I have never seen mine below 40. Most of the time it is up around 60 ish. Now I am starting to wonder if this is normal on a 2nd gen 24 valve. Hmmmm anyone else running these oil pressure numbers?

Your pressures sound fairly normal. Keep in mind the dash guage is only an indication of what is going on. To get an actual pressure reading, use a mechanical guage tapped into the oil galley. What oil do you have in the eng? Some oils will carry higher or lower pressures and vary with temps and loads hauling. If your oil press guage has been holding in that range since you bought it, it is probably good. If it drops for no explained reason, put a test guage on it to verify the pressure and go from there.

the guages on the das are all data controlled by the ecm. not a good indication of whats really going on. and not very fast to respond. if the ecm sees a problem it will tuon the engine light. what you are seeing is perfectly normal.so dont worry. it would be nice to have a guage thats accually hooked to something though.

i have around 18-20psi lube oil pressure off the main gallery on a hot engine idling. that is with synthetic 0w40 in the sump. i am happy with those numbers. and the factory oil pressure gauge is a glorified idoit light. the ecm makes the gauge show what the customer wants to see. there is no pressure sending unit in the lube oil system. there is only a 6psi pressure switch. below that, the gauge reads "0", above that 6psi, it shows normal range...

I do apprectiate the feedback. I feel a little bit better now. Like I said this is my first diesel and I know absolutly nothing about them, other than they pull like a champ. One other thing, is there any way I can make the turbo whistle louder? I do like that sound. Thanks

the pipe comes in 12" piece and i cut it on a chop saw to 8" after i ordered it i wish i would of had them go ahead and cut it down to 8" before they sent it, all they do is cut it to 12" and then send so i imagine they would cut it to your likings if you ask, that way as soon as you get it you can put it right in...
