htt 62/71/13ss vs. Super B Special 64/71/14

i'm looking at upgrading my 62/71/13 to a 64 and am considering swaping turbos with someone that might be willing to do so. i would like to hear you guys opinion on whether or not a trade between a 62/71/13ss and a super b special is a good trade. the turbo is supposed to have normall side to side play, but other than that is in good shape. i'm not sure if i want to go away from the ss housing though.....what do you guys think?

Honestly I would stick to the ss housing, its benefits IMO surpass the Super B in quality. The Super B Special is a great turbo though, I just don't think you'd see any viable difference in performance. The Super B I don't think flows much more anyways. If you want a 64, send your 62 back and get it rebuilt with a 64mm compressor.

I agree with rip 112 as far as sending your turbo back to HTT for a 64 wheel.

Then you will have an "honest" comparison between the 62 and 64 compressors, both with a SS 13cm housing.

I went from a 62/71/14 SPS62 to a Super B Special and picked up 30hp on the same fueling. I am now pushing 650hp at 50psi with 55psi of drive pressure. So for me it was a no brainer!!!

Just for reference the special flows 81lbs/min, which is the same as a Silver Bullet!!!

Also at our shop we currently have a truck running 715hp on a 12v with a boost/dp ratio of 1.5:1@58 psi, so these specials can certianly flow good air and they spool great!!!

IMO, get the special!!!

You're comparing that to a 62 when you should be considering he would be comparing a 64/71-13ss to a Super B essentially.

Now if you find someone quicker that would be looking to downgrade I wouldn't hesitate, get the Special. But I would like to stick with something I know is functioning properly and have it rebuilt. Kinda like having your own injectors rebuilt and sent back. JMHO

in your opinion, how does an htt 64/71/13 compare to a super b special 64/71/14? and is side to side play with the super b special anything to be concerned about?

Go on CompD and do some research on the SS housing HTT uses, there are people having a lot of problems. It seems the dual wastegates pucks arent sealing right a bleeding off pressure and its also bending the arm which holds them down which is another problem causing air to bleed off. Also the wastegate cover its to thin and bleeding off pressure. Its a big enough problem where some guys are leaving 100+hp on the table.

So IMO either go with the BD or the cast series from HTT or II.

That was an old problem that was supposedly fixed over a year ago now, or so i've been told by HTT. Mine has been problem free, even the crush gasket is intact. The newer ones shipping out shouldn't have any issues.

Have it rebuilt with a 64 wheel. Went from a Super B Special to a 64/65 HTT (I know, a little different) but much better spoolup, and more HP.
