HTB2 62/14 vs HTT 71mm series 62/14 - difference in driving?

I am reading a lot on turbos lately, trying to find out what I want. The 71 series 62/14 has a 71mm turbine. The HTB2 62/14 has a 65mm turbine, I think. And then there is the 62/13/65.

What are all your thoughts on these three turbos for my application? I like running level 9 (4.4 beta) all the time.

Thanx.

john I think you should also consider the HTT 64/71/13ss with the manual transmission that would be a hot setup for a single street turbo !

BTW looking forward to giving you a ride in my truck

this sunday morning...... I will show you how a small set of street twins feels like with a little fuel

I second the 64 w/SS housing, and I think you'd be able to drive around a 66 with your G56.

Hmm. Thanx guys. I have not heard of that one. I got an email back from Htt. I shared my mods & the trailer I tow. I said I was kind of considering the HTB2 62/14, but the 62/13ss was only $150 more on ebay. They suggested the 62/13ss so towing will still be nice.

I have read a few times that with a manual trans lag is not such a problem and larger turbos are more street friendly. How come?

Thanx again!!

the silver 62 is arguably the strongest for peak hp power among current 62 offerings

silver II general specs 62/74/14cm cast iron housing modded to flow a bit more then standard 14 cm housing

for what john is going to use the turbo for the htt 62/ or 64/71/13 ss
is the better option

the htt 71 wheel keeps drive pressure at an exact 1:1 up to 50lbs of boost

the htt 13ss will run cooler and cool faster then the cast housing on the
II turbos

the 62 htt compressor vs II 62 compressor both pretty equal overall

for peak hp dyno #s or drag racing exclusively the II silver 62 is a great choice : if you are in the market for a 62 charger & if max peak dyno hp and drag racing is what the application use is for !

but my next question would be ?

if you plan on going for peak dyno #s and drag racing exclusively then why are you looking at a II silver 62 ?

some better options for that application in a single charger would be the
A 5000 or silver 66, either of those would be far superior then the little 62 charger for peak dyno hp and drag racing.

IMO at the end of the day , it gets down to spending your money on what works best, for the intended use application of the turbo

HTT VS Industrial Injection

My Silver 62-14 is excellent for Daily Driving, And when you Really Need that High Mid range Top End Power To Pass That Poky, Hoky Driver in Front of You
The Silver 62-14 Is the Turbo I would Want, Not the poorly packedged HTT Turbo I returned for a Full Refund. I received it and it was literally Falling out of the very poor grade card board box it was packed in with news paper , Kind of Shabby I thought for a $2,000 Item,
On the Other hand the Industrial injection Silver -62 Showed up Packedged very nice with quality packing materials. When you put the HTT-62-13 Next to the Silver -62-14 It looked better , Little To No lag with Nice programmer And Trans. The 66 Would be the Dog More So off the Line, And have More upper Mid and High range power than the Silver-62-14

It's a lot easier to keep the turbo spooled while driving, and easier to take off w/o boost than an auto.

II turbos

Have you guys actually tested the Stainless housings against the cast on the same truck with the same turbo? I have and my results were the SS housing was 150-200 degrees HOTTER pretty much across the board than the cast.

I never towed with it but yeah where I would see 1200 on just injectors before with the SS it was 1400 at WOT. Cruising it was hotter also. So I called HTT told them the deal (they didnt act suprised) they said what do you want to do? I said you can keep this thing they said send it in and we'll swap it for a 64/71/14 ldp. So I did and wow now I am at 1050 at WOT and the turbo feels alot stronger when it hits.So in 2 weeks time I went from a 64/65/12 to 64/65/13ss to a 64/71/14 cast and I would'nt recommend a SS to anyone I know. I like HTT and dont have any problem with them but the SS is great in theory but not in the real world on my truck.

What would you expect from going from a 12cm to 13cm on the SAME turbo?

So whats the deal with the higher egt's on the ss housing? Thought they were supposed to run cooler?I swear, every time I make my mind up on a turbo upgrade I read something like this that just puts me back into a state of confusion!
EBunger, you ever tow with the 64/14/71?How does it do?
