How strong is the tailgate?
#31
I just bought this truck (in signature), and am about to put my 1200lb Polaris Ranger in the bed. Because I have the short-bed, the rear wheels will be sitting on the tailgate when I travel. I'm a little concerned about 1200lbs. + my 225lbs when loading. To make matters worse, I was considering putting my sons 90cc ATV in the bed of the Ranger . . . adding another 250lbs. What do you guys think? Maybe I'll let my wife drive it up the first time .

Go ahead and do it. I used to own an '03 CTD QC Short Bed and I would put my rhino in it all the time. All I did was take out the two hinge pins and set the bed on the frame of the Rhino and then back it on the truck. It did fine for all 1535 lbs. or so (Rhino plus my 300). What I would be sure of is that you have the proper ramps. Make sure they are rated for your application or you may not even have to worry about the tailgate strength!

The Rhino was too long to fit in the short bed of my truck with the bed installed on it so I tilted the dump bed back and removed the two hinge pins. All I did then was picked up the bed and put it in a vertical position behind the seats on the frame and strap it down. I'm not sure if you can do it that way with the Polaris or not but that's how I transported mine around.
