I had a SPS66 turbo. I hated it on the street and I hated it even more for towing. It did not matter if it was fall, winter, spring, or summer. Constant smoke stream at cruise, laaaaag, annoying surge, high cruise EGT, and crap mileage. This was with cam, 90 HP injectors, TST box, pressure box, and manual tranny.
Dynoed at ~550 HP uncorrected with it and it was @ 1400 EGT and rising fast. cquestad was there too watching my gauges.
I do have to admit, though, that once the laaaaag and associated dark smoke cloud passed it was like a 2-stroke rocket, pin-one-to-the seat - which is kind of useless short city block stoplight-to-stoplight. Drag racing 1/4 mile or interstate is probably a different story.
Went to SPS62 and driveability dramatically improved. Then went to twins and wondered why I just didn't get them in the first place.
Oh yeah... I routinely drive at 5,000 to 7,000 feet in the "NV desert".

[QUOTE=SlowSixSpeed;1768123]Haha it was actually very warm. Last Thursday 25th it was in the high 70's and I think my my overhead was 74' over the summit.
The only time it will smoke more then a smaller charger is during the spool up.
Small turbos smoke just as bad as larger ones until they light, which is sooner then on a larger one. My SB clears up completely as soon as it lights off at 14psi, stock is around 9psi
You need to compare apples to apples he has a Auto trans and lives in Las Vegas, NV where summer temps get to 115* in July and Aug and 85* is cool compared to over 105* or higher try it some time and you will see what I am talking about.

I drive around every day with 670.....and well now i have more than that.
My truck dynoed 670 with my silver 62 and with the beta 4.2sl @ 120 mph I am seeing 1575-1600. I am now stacking with my 4.2sl, and it is way too much for the 62 i am seeing 1600 @ 90 mph.....so i am gonna upgrade.
But on my truck the silver 62 WILL cool 670hp
Oh ya...and if I remember correctly an Aurora A5K only flows about 350scfm more than a modded silver 62....and about the same as a modded silver bullet...so come on now, TWICE the flow rate??

If my wife drove my truck more than once a month, I would not install a big laggy turbo. I live in the high desert. When I visit the "low wetlands of TX or the semi low wetlands of WA, my truck spools fast. Denser cooler intake air has more to do with spoolup than anyone will admit. For a wife driven daily driver, you better get twins or just add some H2O injection and studs for the track. Or better yet, add some NOS and studs and you will go faster than any of the previous combinations. Twins, big single, nothing compares to NO2.

Save the money in the long run and do the twins up front. Big singles dont have any where near the street manors that twins do. Twins are the best of both worlds. Great bottom end response, especially when towing and the flow in the top end to keep that smoke cleaned up and the EGTs down.

Perhaps cquestad was talking about twice the mass flow rate not the volumetric flow rate like you're refering to?

Yes twins are better but if your a sled puller the only option you really have is a big single. What are you guys talking about surging? I drive mine on the street everyday and can barely tell I have it on there truck feels the same it always has. The only real thing I have noticed is that when I get on it a little bit when it gets higher in the rpms it just looses all power is that the surging? I also don't have a boost fooler yet becasue I haven't hooked my edge back up, would that effect anything?

Well guys I think I am just going to stick with the 62-12 for now and get a snow kit, And save my money for the twins. I cant have a truck that doesnt have good street manners with my wife driving it.

Ramtd02,
What was your correction factor? I personally can get 2-300 degrees hotter on the street than on the rollers. Maybe you don't drive it hard enough on the street or look at the gauges on the strip.
The 62 is a midget compared to a A5k...no matter what anyone says.
I am only trying to help...don't take me the wrong way. I hope your engine holds up.
Without spray...there is no way.

I am not denying the fact that an A5K is a much bigger turbo and will flow more air....what i am saying is that with my 670rwhp as long as i am not ON IT all the way from a standing start....too 3500 rpm in 6th gear (about 123-124 mph), it doesnt get hot enough too worry.
on the strip crossing the line I am 1600-1700*, the temps i quoted above were rolling starts from about 60-70 mph. This winter I am either going twins, or a modded silver bullet. I am leaning towards the bullet, but we will see i guess.
On a side note: Take a look at my graph in my gallery.....you will see that the Silver62 WILL NOT make more than what I am making....the graph is flatlined from 2300-2800 rpm....I know i have more fuel as @ WOT my exhaust is still blackish grey
