Someone told me that a big up to date body shop has a tool that heats the glue without heating the surface and it comes right off. Might want to call a couple shops and ask.

I removed it off of my x's van one time, a heat gun, some plyers, and alot of muscle. After you get the chrome off, then you need a big eraser wheel. there was a post somewheres (I think it was in non drivetrain 3rd gen) that says where to get this wheel. If you use a petroleum based remover it will cloud the paint. But with the wheel your paint will be like new. Oh and one other thing, you need to have a high rpm tool to turn it, like a pnuematic drill,, it has to be faster than a regular drill

I need to do the same thing to my truck. I put a dent in my cab corner the other day and now the back door, front of box, and cab corner stainless is junk. Instead of replacing it I would like to clean up the truck by taking all the stainless off. The only thing I'm worried about is the paint not matching behind the stainless beacause it never faided like the rest of the truck. Did anyone have that problem??? If I may ask did any of the body shops quote you a price on taking it off?

and, unfortunately, the adhesive will stain the paint over time... I didn't use any "remover" on mine other than a pair of pliers to pull the stainless (well, and a chisel to lip the stainless up to grab it w/ the pliers) and an eraser wheel to remove the adhesive and backing. it was some WORK!!! no remover and it still stained the paint

How long was the stainless on your truck? Im trying to figure out roughly how long the stainless has to be on a truck before it affects the paint. I suppose it all depends on if it was parked outside or in a garage, and how strong the sun is in your part of the country. How noticable is the paint affected?
