How much will the stock tranny hold?? HP levels??
I just got a 04.5. I had a superduty with just a programmer but i was looking to get the Edge Juice with Att because i like the simplicty of the guages in one pod rather the multiple guages around. Aslo an AFE stage 2 intake and MBRP exahust..Im just worried about the tranny and how much i can put down before i start hurting things. I do little bit of towing ect, tractor and when my friends fords breakdown..just about all the time...i want the best setup for towing but little extra power as well. anybody have a setup like this ..

oc, is that an auto or 6speed. The 48re and 6speed will hold about 375 hp empty before the tc and od or clutch slips. Towing it will be about 325 hp. With a tc and vb it will hold 500 empty but the tranny will need to be built eventually. With the standard and a twin disc clutch it'll hold everything you can afford to put on it. ks

You can run the edge juice with your stock tranny, just leave it on the lower levels. If ya want a little better holding power, call up Stefan at DTT and talk to him about what your planning. He can set ya up with what ya need. Oh, and whatever you do, don't listen to a member by the name of John Rodriguez about how much abuse your tranny can handle.

I am on 37's but my tranny slips a bit on level 4 and quite a bit on level 5. level 3 seems great.
I am assuming on stock rubber level 4 would be fine and level 5 may have you slipping.
DTT, goerend bros., and dunrite have the most economical trans solutions. I recomend talking to them. stephan at DTT, dave at goerend bros., tony at dunrite.
pick there brain and get the bottom line pricing from each. I am trying to decide right now which option to go with when tax return comes back. dunrite had the cheapest option as they sell a VB upgrade kit and they are local to me so know shipping.

Stefan at DTT set me up with just a valve body and it held all of the abuse I could throw at it with a comp (120hp) and 275 injectors (40hp). Now it's holding 100+hp injectors and the comp on the 80hp setting. Far beyond what it was designed to. I'd definately talk to Stefan and Dave at see what they say.

yeah they will give you options. I only suggest the both becasue I though you had to put new o-rings in the pump with a valvel body upgrade. I am pulling the tranny the stock coverter is coming out. watch how much you RPM's drop when the stock convert drops into overdrive. the stock converter is obviouly not that effiecent. one could deal with this by adding a manual lock up override though.
on my truck when I am just all over it as it accelerates it seems like once it hits forth and the coverter locks up and you gain that effeciency the truck just seem to moving better.
I had it suggested both ways at my power level. coverter only, vb only. since I am on 37's there is a bit more load so I think I am just going to do both. that way I actually have some power margin rather than just barely having enough holding power.

I have those exact mods (see sig) on 37" tires with 3.73s.
I have had all the mods for about 14,000 miles now, 25,000 on the truck.
With the "defuel for lockup" dissabled, I can get upto 10% slip on the trans. I can probably get more, but I just shut it down at 10% (and this is with backdown set up for slip). With the "defuel for lockup" enabled, I can still get upto 6% slip. This is on levels 4 and 5.
In all honesty, unless the converter is locked up, the truck does nothing exciting. Part throttle is a bit better, but at WOT, the converter eats all the power up, its sad. I realize that 37s and 3.73s are not the best option, but the converter definitley has to go.
I think I will NEED a fuel system upgrade, new converter and vb at the LEAST in the very near future, if not now.
I just can't decide what fuel pump to get for my '05... (can I just get a booster pump, or, do I have to pull my stock lift pump and replace it with something better).... and same goes for the converter/vb. Any suggestion guys, please fire away.

I know once I buy my converter, 2/3 lever, and valve body it will feel like a different truck.
even stock I know the trans sucked. I would watch the tach drop a grip when the convert locked up and just feel how much more positive the truck felt when the coverter is locked up. I can't imagine how hard it owuld accelrate in lower gears if there were no loss.
I can't wait. the 60hp setting was a decent pickup on the juice. I am sure levels 4 and 5 would feel great if the tranny didn't slip so bad. I bet there is 30-40hp on the trans. will the Extreme setting be okay for occassional use then?
and the tranny last a long time?
i don't need to run it Extreme all the time, but it would be nice to put in Extreme and maybe go to the local 8th mile, or fart around town, and not worry about the tranny puking parts all over.

Igor, you sure do have to do those mods. your truck will be like a new toy with those mods. I thought the box was good at first but the tranny and fuel supply were way better....with the box. Start piling on the overtime so that when you get out of the snow and mud zone ya can have some fun. Just don't forget guys get rid of the flexplate and go laminated or billet. ks

My 03 PSD that I sold last year was bombed and I did alot of hauling cross country, and thought it was fun also, until I got a built tranny and a killer TC, THEN that was FUN!!!!!!! I mean, WORLD of a difference with a built tranny and TC over stock stuff. So, yeah, the stock stuff will hold for awhile (depending on how bombed you are) but until the tranny is really able to handle it, you will not know what you are missing.
