How much power will the 48RE hold stock
Kind of curious to see what kind of HP you guys are pushing through the 48RE's before needing upgrades..
What is needed once you get past a certain point? TC & a shift kit? Or do you need to go deeper?
At what levels do you need to do more than a TC & shift kit?
Thanks

Use to have a bully dog down loader and when in the extreme setting the trans could not hold it at wot. I have a volumizer box now it it does fine in the 100 HP setting. Have dyno'ed so I do not have rear wheel power levels.

Still putting power to the ground, even on 37" tires. Fluid coupling sucks but I have no torque converter lockup slippage, or in any of the clutchpacks. I lost 45hp to the wheels when I put on 37" tires

My brother's '03 has had an EZ on it for a while. We pulled the trans. and the converter had been getting hot - the typical hot spots next to the bolt lugs. We installed a BD valve body and converter - now it shifts like it should! I say if you have any power over stock and don't want problems you should do at least a valve body & converter. BTW his truck only has 40K on it and is driven empty 95% of the time.

I'd have to agree. My tranny temps get to 200 just driving around at 5psi of boost, and that's in tow-haul with the tc locked up from 30 to what ever mph i'm doing. It's getting started that heats up the tc.

John,
So you don't even have a shift kit?
I just got the Juice/Attitude and the monitor says over 8% slip (if you can believe it) much of the time. I've been shopping for a tc and shift kit but it will have to wait a few more months.

I would think 375/750 for a daily drive would be about as high as you would want to go and still be able to put a lot of miles on it (50k+).

Well I've been pushing 400whp / 770ft/lb for like 9000 miles, then 460/900 for another 2 or 3, so what do I know Then I added the 37's and my power to the wheels dropped by 50whp but the same amount to the input shaft, so I still have 410whp on 37's. It gets hot daily driving.
