How loud are stacks?

The general rule of thumb is that if you have to ask, they will be too loud Having said that, the gen 3's with pilot injection tend to be quieter engines in general, even with a straight pipe/stacks. A box across the bed for the stacks as opposed to round pipe also acts as a muffler, for some acoustic reason. Good luck and have fun! I miss my stacks, but you see what I'm running now...

I had thought about getting them, found a pretty good deal on them, then talked to a few of my friends, and they talked me out of it. I probably would have got them anyway if I did not have other things to spend the money on.
It's mainly the soot factor, and the drone when towing. If you can get over that...

Greatest exhaust system I have ever had, its loud when I want it and only when I want it, and I have my pump tuned so I can make it smoke when I want, and run clean when I don't, so the soot is controllable. It'll always give you noise on takeoffs and acceleration, and of course climbing hills with a load, but on the highway my tires make enough noise along with general wind noise to drown out the exhaust. I also run a MBRP Silverline Muffler just aft of the downpipe, but being straight through all it really helps with is drone.
Besides, from the sleds you have, noise sounds like it isn't much of a complaint with you...

I've had mine on for a long time now... Mine are very bearable in the cab, by the time the AC and the radio is on (not cranked just on normal) I cant hear them unless I really get on the go pedal... BUT I have twins and that makes a HUGE difference in sound!! Much quieter than a friends with a single... Only time mine get loud is towing heavy and sitting right at 2000RPMs.. bit of a drone there, but it's easy to go a mph faster and get out of the drone...

I love the sound straight piped but it is SUPER loud like that and not enjoyable to drive or tow for long distances...
u cant just spray the soot off either it takes a good hand wash to clean it up.
the sound and the cool factor makes it all worth it

I enjoy the loudness. That's what I aim for. If you go with 5" tips it will be loud, but more resonate than 6" or 7". With a load on it it will be constantly loud unless you're going downhill. Even with a muffler it can be loud. The thing about stacks is it has a very distinct tone.

i'm sure you could ride with a couple members before you pull the trigger
IMO it's fun around town but i need a muffler for as much highway driving as i do

I am in central NY. I guess I am getting old cause if I have to ask if it is too loud then I am too old. My sleds will rattle my windows for about 10 seconds and then I am off the gas. They are obnoxious. I want a little more noise than stock without goiong crazy but I like the looks of the stacks. Jim

I had to put stacks on my truck for drag racing,, and woah they are fricken loud,,, too loud in the cab for my liking, vibrates everything. Mind you I have 5" mitre cuts as close to level with the cab as I can get. Oh and 1 more thing,, soot is allmost impossible to get off of a 5er,, you would think it would just wash off,, but unfortunately it dosent, not even close,, havent found the perfect thing yet to get it off.

Stacks are great. Enough said, they will be loud of course. I've never had them on my cummins, but my buddies F-250 super duty sure does sound great. Not overly loud unless you want it to be, but gives you that very nice smile on your face because you know they are there
