How hot is too hot?

Whats the highest safe egts? I have heard the 3rd gen 5.9 are safe to 1400. Can anybody confirm? Whats a good cheap way to lower egt? Should I even worry about it? Mine will hit 1600 if I stay in the throttle long enough (mainly 1/4 mile at a time!). Superchips tells me this is no big deal for short duration; still makes me nervous. BTW, my temp probe is just before the turbo. Thanks!

1600 is no big deal if it is only for a few seconds. Before my turbo upgrade I saw 1800+ once at the end of the 1/4. A cold air intake and free flowing exhaust will help but a turbo upgrade will be the cure.

1600 should be ok for a few seconds. Anything above that or longer than a few seconds is where I'd start worrying.

When you singe your eyebrows, your EGT's are too high...

Sorry couldn't resist.

i'm a little more sensative to egts. its one of those questions that many say ok but you have to pay the bill if a problem occurs. i keep everything under 1400..period. i've done the 1500, 1600's and it didn't work for my valve seats. i recommend conservacy when answering this question because i feel its cheaper in the long run and better on the engine. CR's are known to be sensitive to egts so its up to each individual and each truck. similar is the warranty discussion...some can afford to take chances, some cannot. figure out where you fall and set your fueling and air accordingly....just trust me when i say those risks get very expensive very quickly.
good luck.
