How do you dyno a diesel?
A shop here in town has a chassis dyno, and I can get it dyno'd today. But, neither the dyno operator nor I know where to hook up to get an accurate rpm reading! They've just opened up their shop, and have never had a diesel in there before. Help me quickly if you can, so I can go back and get it done.

Yes, you can do the reflective tape deal, but when I had mine dynoed on a Dynojet, I was able to just put the inductive pickup on a wire going to the front injector harness connector. After fiddling with the dyno software a bit (it had a drop-down box to select degrees of crank motion per pulse, and only had 90, 180, 270, and 360 choices - but also allowed you to enter an arbitrary number - 240° was the correct value), it was able to read the RPM's of the engine without a problem.

Hmmm, this was a dynojet. I just happen to have the computer running the dyno in my possession. They were running a buggy install of win ME, and I fix pc's for a semi-living. So, the machine came home with me to get reformatted and xp pro installed. I'll play around with the dyno software some to see what's what. I know this-I found a wire on the cam sensor that provides a signal, but it shows about 2100 rpm at idle. The stock tach shows about 750 rpm. I wonder if it's really idling at 700, and the divider should be 3 (or 120 degrees), or if the divider is something less straightforward than that. I may have to hook the inductive pickup to that wire again and tinker with manually-entered dividers.
