Holley Black or Carter
This is my second Carter fuel pump. I use it to push my stock fuel pump on the fuel filter (BD Aux. setup). The first one lasted for a year and was replaced by Carter for free, they charged me $28 for shipping plus I paid $14 to ship mine back to them (I wouldn't call that free). This one is coming up on a year old now so I picked up a Holley Black on e-bay.
My questions I'm putting out there is:
1) Should I replace the Carter now or wait till it dies? I don't want to wait till I'm on the side of the road pulling a 5er, cost me $400 last time to get it towed home.
2) When I replace the pump, should I remove the stock pump also and only use the Holley pump? I have a stock pump under the back seat for a spare and also have the adapter fitting to replace the stock pump.
3) If I remove the stock fuel pump, can I simply extend the wires off the stock pump to run the Holley, will that deliver enough power to the Holley pump?
4) I like having two pumps running together. When the first Carter died on the side of the road, I simply pulled the rubber hoses off it and inserted a 6 inch length of tubing and was on my way. I'm not running no big power here, the stock lift pump ran fine, pulled my 5er home and around for 2 weeks till Carter replaced the pump.
Any input would be helpful, Thanks, Al
