Hmm Silencer ring "is" a option on Holset
Hmm
if you look at the Holset webpage under service/parts and get the maint. manual - it states it right there that the ring is a option. also shows how they get the ring out.. I had to use channel locks...

anyway - with stock intake I don't note any more turbo noise.. BUT the engine at idle with hood open DOES sound loader and SEEMS like you can here the engine ticking more like a diesel. But maybe this is just the coffee .

I just took mine off ( I had to just pull it off with channel locks also.) I don't really hear anymore turbo whistle than before. I even have the AFE Stage I airbox and I don't think it is very much louder than stock to be honest.

you can't unless you cut it out - thats why people get a diff tube - that way you have the stock if you need it.. ie: make one are by one..

All you really need to do is get one of these http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MPC-EP or make your own from this tubing http://store.airflo.com/al5-5.html
Or....you can buy a complete intake like a lot have done including me.

actually that baffle doesnt need too be cut out. That tube can be taken apart, the top ring on the tube is sealed, but when you pop it off and pull out the baffling, just run a bead of silicone and it will fit and seal just as stock did!!

I removed the silencer ring and didnt notice a thing. removed the white director fins and didnt notice a thing. I took a sawzall to the baffles and made sure i blew at the tube with an air compressor for about 25 minutes before i put it back on to make sure any particles were gone, and turned the truck on. The turbo screams now. Stock filter and removed baffles, removed silencer ring and it sings.

Does removing this only make the turbo sound louder and/or cooler? Does anyone have a pre and post dyno or some type of data to support removing this for an increase in power? It reminds me of putting playing cards in my bicycle spokes...sounds cooler but no difference in power output or mileage.
