High idle with TST?

I know when the high idle first became available, if you used it with a TST it would throw a CEL.

This problem has been fixed, correct?

Don't set the idle to 1200 RPM's and there is no chance of throwing the code.

Don't lug and fuel hard on a cold motor at 1200 RPM's or set the idle there...I have not had the code in 2 years.

I just discovered this the other day. We had a cold morning, so I turned on the high idle, and while I was walking by the truck I could hear it miss about every 10 seconds. Opened the door, CEL was on. 336 code. I think the lowest high idle is 1100rpm which is where I had it.

I was afraid of that....did you just turn the high idle off and then clear the code and all was fine?

I use my high idle daily!

Clear it and forget it

97360, that is what I do. I can get the 336 on any of the RPM settings of the high idle. The feature of the high idle sure is nice until the motor starts stumbling on its face and smoking up the yard. Just clear the code though, enjoy your warm truck and after a nice drive you will forget about it until the next morning.

P.S. That situation acutally pi**e* me off when it happens. (* = s)

Another thing you can try is to put the truck in drive and apply the parking brake. That produces higher egts than high idle for warming up.

This seems like a very unsafe thing to do.

Agreed.

this is really gonna tick me off!

Does the truck run fine on high idle for a little while, then mess up? or is it immediately?

Just set the idle at 1300 or 1400 and it is fine...I use mine all winter long for three winters now.

1100 or 1200 is too low anyways...

I do the parking brake/drive thing all the time to if I am in a hurry.

wow i've never heard this. that makes sense though, after most people turn the high idle on, they don't up the RPM's any, they let it set around 1100-1200.

I'll be trying this as soon as the TST gets here. Thanks.
