High Idle Mod
Did my high idle mod, purchased the ecm pigtail from Cummins NW and did the mod in about 20 minutes. I installed a dash mounted switch to enable/disable the high idle. Uses the cruise control switches to give adjustability from 1100 to 1500 rpm. the exhaust brake works at the 1100 rpm setting by kicks off above that. warms up the rig really quickly.
heres a link to a video with me playing with the settings. 15meg vid clip.

All 3 gs have the AUTO high idle below a certain temp.Thats NOT what was being asked about the OPERATOR controled high idle through the cruise control function at ANY ambient temp.

the toggle switch was installed instead of a clutch switch which prevents the truck being put into gear and driven with the high idle engaged. just as a safety measure. however, just like the automatic high idle when cold, as soon as you touch the brake pedal, the idle returns to 750.

My 04 has the manual high idle. I have never seen the automatic one do its thing yet, even idling for 20 min didn't activate it. But this was pre smarty, my smarty activated high idle without having to go to dealer. I'll have to test the auto idle up when it gets colder again later this week.

dodgezilla04,
Instead of running all that wire into the cab and drilling a hole for the switch, if you would have just ground out pin #22 to the ECM mount bolt as per the instructions, the high idle cuts out with a slight touch of the brake pedal as well.
No offense, but I can't see why you went to all that trouble. I mean with the switch, you have to either turn off cruise, step on brake, or turn off switch to make the high idle cut out.
If you would have just stuck with the instructions, you have to touch the brake, or turn off the cruise to make the high idle cut out. Just one less thing to think about and less junk on the inside of the cab is all.
Maybe you didn't drill any holes and can get rid of an extra eyesore switch? Ground is ground. Whether it's switched or direct. Either way no clutch switch is being used.
Or maybe, I just don't get the jist of what you have done with yours. Maybe something more that hasn't been mentioned?

any experiences with high idle ( via cruise ) with an '04 6-speed ( manufactured 11/03 ). rjg23 seems to have it working on his ''04 48RE with a smarty. This makes me wonder if I can have this feature enabled in ECM if I install Cummins pigtail ( p/n 3164263 ) to ground pin 22.

i wanted the option of MAKING SURE it was disabled. I had my "automatic operation" Pacbrake stick on when new. NO POWER. By killing the switch I installed, I was able to turn it off and continue on the road. What is the likelyhood of it happening to the cruise control? Pretty slim, but stranger things have been known to happen with all this wonderful electronics.
I did read and understand the directions, my truck, my choice. I am perfectly sure the simplest way of grounding to the ecm bolt would have worked forever.
PS. ever have a brake light switch fail?
