It sounds a little like what I had on my truck, but the little midget was beating very fast!! It sounded like it was something in front of the firewall. What I found was that in higher torque situations, my downpipe was torquing up with the engine and making contact with the bottom of the cab about 8 inches or so behind the turbo. It only did it in low gears and reverse -- nothing in 5th or 6th. Hope this helps!

That sounds about right, more like a drumroll w/ ballpeen hammers really. But I'm almost 110% positive it's on the Driver's side. It's starting to warm up here so I'm going to look at it soon...
