i removed my relay today to clean up the engine bay and that imediately set both codes. this could be the reason some of you are seeing codes even w/ the block heater plugged in.
leave the relay in place and remove only the two large power wires for the battery and grid, use the block heater and you shouldnt see any codes unless your wait to start light still comes on and i would think it would have to be very very cold for that to happen.

It seems the 06 and newer trucks have the grids come on different. My 04 truck the grid would cycle all the time no matter the temp......My 06 only comes on when its cold (40* or lower) or the trucks been sitting for a few days. Just an observation but might have something to do with why the 06's can set codes.
Mine has only set a code 3 times in the last 6 months my grid delete has been in. I left the relay by the battery connected just removed the cable to the grid.
The code is when the ECM does not see the expected voltage drop when it tells the heater to turn on.

I think you're on to something...... I don't have any codes and have mine set up as you've described above.

My dad has this box on his truck that works wonders. In the cab is a plunger that you pull....Whirrrrrr....the sound of a pump pushing diesel into a miniture furnace. Once the temp is right it circulates the water in the system. 15 minutes later start the truck, and take off your jacket...she is at operating temp already. I want to get that setup for my truck. Even if you dont use it but once a year, it is a nice security blanket!

All electrical heaters are just "resistors" that heat up. I would think that you could measure the resistance through the grid heater. Then purchase a resistor of somewhat higher ohm value. Connect the power leads to the resistor to simulate the grid heater and current drop that the ECM is expecting. A large enough resistor would not get hot.

ive had my delete on for a few months now...no codes thrown....probably started 30 times below 30 degrees, 10 times below 20 degrees...no codes no problems!!!
