Help with turbo selection

I know that there have been a thousand threads on turbos lately, but I am looking to make a compatible combo. I have a 250hp S.O. with an auto and 3.73's. I have the mods in my sig. and plan on adding a walbro or mechanical pusher pump, stage 1 CP3, and injectors. The question is I am also planning on running some 38.5" tall tires as well. I don't really tow and if I do it is pretty light. With the combo I should have lots of fuel, but will I be able to spool a SPS66 or Silver Bullet, or something of comparible size. I would like to get good power without going to twins. I am just not sure whether tons of fuel will compensate for the big meats. Worst off I guess I could swap some 4.10's or 4.56's in the AAM's. Any input would be apreciated.

Unfortunately, with your tall gearing and the size tires you want to run, anything bigger than a 62mm turbo will probably stand a better than average chance of surging a lot. Your RPMs at a cruise are just gonna be too low for any of the big turbos I believe. It may work out for you, but you will be spending a lot of time in their surge zone which is not in your favor. More expensive yes, but twins will be a better option for you I think.

AK, that was my concern, do you know what range you need to get into to cruise "surge free"? With the lack of towing I was hoping to get away with it, but I don't want to spend all of my time dancing around sweet spots. Then I'm stuck with overfueling a smaller single, or biting the bullet and trying some twins. I guess that swapping gears at both ends would be almost the same cost as twins to begin with so gears may not be the best direction. Keep the info coming, big decision I apreciate all the help I can get

Holy **** I have a 66 and have no surge when towing, and not only that I am goin to do twins with the 66 as my first. So what turbo should you run I have no idea.

JD, I think what AK and I are discussing is more because of the gearing offset of the large tires. If I was staying with the 35" 's then it would be a Silver Bullet or 66 for sure, but the big tires are going to make it harder to spool the big single and keep the rev's up high enough to keep it lit while cruising. I have just been watching Tommeygun on the TDR and how as he adds more fuel it becomes more driveable with his HTT66, but once again he is only running 315 size tires so it's a bit different beast.

How about some more of you guys with 37" tires. I know there are a ton of guys on here with 37's and stock gearing. Anybody want to share your combo and how it went?

Oh I understand I ain't trying to intrude or anything and I am sure more will reply. But I will tell you with my dually with 3.73 I run 1-2 pounds of boost while cruising, Now that is what I wanted personally for me. I like the 66 because it does spool quickly but only when you want it too. So this probably woulden't work for you if you want constant boost. Good luck

JD, no harm intended. Just looks like you are running about the same height tire as me, and I just don't know if the tach will run high enough with the bigger rubber. It would be tough if the 37's only run 1600 @ 70, because that is about as fast as I cruise and a little more tire with a big turbo could be interesting. I think that crossing that $3K mark is starting to push it on the ATS. Getting close to twins cost I hope it performs as advertised. Someone must have tried a big turbo with 37" or bigger tires, for better or for worse?

I kind of like my little HTB2 62/12. Works great for me and very reasonably priced...
