My recent Chromium is 1.

I have no idea where Chromium comes from... maybe bearing material or part of an alloy of aluminum pistons???

Maybe post it on BITOG for some oil analysis gurus to respond to...

Dodgezilla is right, it's the piston rings. Universal avg is 2.

22 seems high.

Christian, you have some ring material scrubbing off.

10 ppm is the reportable level...I just got off the phone with the lab. They said 22 is not THAT bad...they have seen 40 or more before.

My top end of the motor looked great...if you remeber the post before.

Cilynder wall looked new.

Is there anywhere else I could pick up Chrome? The shiny bling of a billet alloy compressor wheel on a A5k? I ground a bit of it down...and the engine would eat that?

Main bearings?

Arrhhhhhhhh.....I am praying.

See if you can find out what that billet alloy is composed of. Maybe that's it... I hope so for your sake. Too much work already.

Well...I just figured that out n back of the shop...talked to all of the "more experienced" wrenchs...

No chrome in the bearings...rings or the surface of that oil plunger or the turbo bearing retainer clip that was probaly the material that was pulverized by the pump...

So...Lloyd...what do you think...should I be sweating it? Or install the pump and new cooler parts...and let er rip?

My iron was 95...but the cylinder walls looked PERFECT....no scuffing...cross hatch was perfect...like new?

Ya...the pump needs to be...since it is kinda the meat grinder for all the debree that gets sucked through a 1/8" screen on the pick up in the pan.

Wonder why the smart guys can't put the filter BETWEEN the pump and pan...its not like it would not SUCK the oil right through it...being mechanical and all.

I think I am going to invent an inline hi flow screen for the turbo oil drain lines to save somebody this heartache in the future.
