Help me get to 500hp the right way.

With my 305/555 I made 555/960 uncorrected with the following:
TST PMCR
Bully Dog Triple Dog
FASS 150
Banks Technicooler
Banks turbo-back 4"
AFE Stage II
II SPS66 (really laggy)
South Bend organic dual disc
Later I changed out to a SPS62. Lost about 25-50hp, but it worked so much better! Much more fun on the street!
Of the many, many combinations I tried, the most entertaining driving experience was with the Smarty on 7 and MP-8 at whatever you need.

JCLeary thanks for the info. If I can get to 500 I'll be happy, but having a little more fat on the bones wouldn't hurt. I will be doing springs/stix/studs but I have determined that I want to do the main neccessities first turbo fuel and clutch. How did you like the dual disc? How were its characteristics? I'm really leaning towards it, but there hasn't been much raw feedback on clutches or a HTT 64/13-71 ss.

The street DD was ok. I had the 3250# plate, and it wasn't all that stiff.
If I had to do it again, I'd go with a ceramic DD. That would leave you the option to do boosted launches and sled-pulling. The organic DD is for smooth engagement and towing. Not racing as much.
The shifting was slow, they don't like to go into gear at a stop and they rattle. I switched to an OFE, and it held everything I threw at it.
Making the switch from a DD to an OFE was like going from a stock NV5600 to driving a Honda. It really made that much of a difference. I never slipped the OFE, even with some drag racing and plenty of street thrashing. The OFE shifts like a hot knife through butter compared to the DD. Your synchro's aren't crying when you're ripping down the track...
If you *are* going to go dual disc, go for a 3600# ceramic. Do it right, do it once.
...and get a Fluidampr while you're at it!

I'm still looking for a smooth engagement. Pedal pressure isn't too much of an issue, it can be stiffer and I wouldn't mind, as long as it engaged smooth. When I looked at SBCs website, they showed the con ofe to 450hp/900 tq. I'm not doubting it could hold 500+, but would it be effecient? Or should I look at a con fe? I probably will do the hydraulic upgrade even though it probably isn't needed.

If you have a DD, the Fluidampr cuts the noise from the trans by at least 50%.
The FE is very grabby, the OFE is pretty smooth. If it starts to get grabby, just hammer on it and it will smooth out again. You won't like backing up with a FE.
Peter's clutches are rated very conservatively. Tomeygun (TDR) has been pushing 600+ hp through his old-style 3200# OFE for a couple of years...
The newer style is around 3600# IIRC

Thanks for the info. That will save me a huge chunk of change. Would it be smart to do a hydraulic upgrade even though I have the nv5600? Will a fluidamper prove useful with a ofe clutch also? Or not worth it?

For a clutch Id also check out Haisley and there HMR street puller. I dont have this clutch but when the time comes for one this is what I will be putting in my truck. After researching it a little everyone that had it loved it, not a bad thing to say. I also know SB is a great company to.

Thanks hintz, I'll keep that in mind. I guess I've been really partial to SBC.
Come on guys, I know somebody can direct me in the right direction with clutches....OFE or DD? Haisley?(who has this clutch and who likes it?) I can't make any mistakes....

Thanks jilbert. I don't intend on going past 550, so that is good news. I think I will go with the ofe. Thanks for all the help. I just debadged my truck, had a good time doing it (not really) I'll keep everyone updated as everything falls together. Suggestions are still welcome.
