Help me decide on a turbo...want to buy TOMORROW 12/29!

I know this has been discussed, but I want to get an opinion for my specific set up. My sig has all of my mods. I want to buy tomorrow because I can expense out the turbo through my performance parts business as an "equipment repair" to reduce my tax burden for this year. SO, I want to know which turbo to go with...

II SPS 62/12 or 62/14
II PS 62/12 or 62/14
HT HTB2 62/12 or 62/14

I want as close to stock spool as possible since the truck is a 6-speed. I mainly want to upgrade for the reliability of an aftermarket turbo pushing 45 psi, NOT for some monster 1200 ft/lb sled puller. So, what do you all recommend for something similar to stock. I have read that several of you 6 speed guys who go with a 12cm3 housing wish you went w/ the 14, so I don't want to make the same mistake if the 14 is the better housing, even if a little spool speed is compromised.

I also plan on picking up an EZ or MP8 to stack with the smarty to finalize my truck's combo. I'd like to ultimately make 400-450 RWHP and 1000 ft/lbs approximately, and do it under 50 psi to run the stock head bolts. Does anyone have any suggestions on pressure boxes? I have heard both pros and cons on both I listed, so I'm clueless on that choice.

Thanks a million!!

here I will give a stab at it HTT 62/14 (super 62) the 14 will spool faster then the 12, the 14 will run alittle hotter then the 12 but were spliting hairs but way cooler then stock, Pressure box I know alot of people dont like the old Dr Performance box but the new one has worked great and they can change the program in it if you dont like it. mine has been flawless. before you put a pressure box on the truck get a 2mk filter. dirt and pressure kill injectors togeather. get the dirt out of the fuel and the pressure is fine.

Thanks for the reply! I always thought the 12cm3 was the smaller housing, thus faster spool and higher EGTs?

My signature needed updating...I forgot I have the GDP GSL392 as well as the MK-2 filter kit.

I am also thinking about going with an ATS manifold if it will improve my spool and EGTs even futher.

Thanks again!

Okay, so that's one vote for each, HT 62/14 and SPS 62/14. How is the spool on either of these compared to stock? Is the HT closer to a II PS or SPS in performace and spool??

Unless I am missinformed also the 12 will spool faster and run hotter under WOT, however under normal drivin will actualy run slightly cooler.

I am not a turbo guy but I would get the newest HTT 62 they make wich has a 14cm housing and that is it, no option, but is has a new compressor wheel and is said to spool up between the HTB2 62/12 and 62/14. I think it is called the streetstock.

I dont know if you want to save money or not depending on the tax thing but the HTTs will be the cheapest and if the 62 aint enought they will upgrade to a 64 for around 300 bucks.

Oh and if you want to spend the most $ possibel get the sps.

A 62/12 will get you as close to stock spool as possible, I have heard (dont know how accurate the info is though) that the factory turbo is a 62/9

Based on the website, it looks like the HTB2 is the "street stock" but they have a 71 series turbo that's considered the "Super Stock 62", http://www.htturbo.com/ht71.htm

Maybe this 71 series "super stock 62" is what they released to compete with the SPS?

I am talkin about the 71 mm wheel, superstock, I apologize for the missprint.

I think you are dead on, I THINK the 71 series is supposed to compete with the sps.

Cool...pricing is close on both too.

Any ideas how much slower the spool would be on these over the regular PS/HTB2 turbos? Equal comparions, 14cm3 turbine housings.

I'm pretty sure the initial spool may be a slight bit slower on the sps and superstock vs. the ps and htb2, but the turbo will reach peak boost faster, and will be more efficient as power goes up.

This is right, but exactly backwards. the 12 will spool faster but will run higher egts. I definately recommend the 6214 (SPS6280) I like this particular turbo becuase of the upgradablitly, in case I decide that I dont want to tow anymore and just want to go real fast. But now that I have run the 6280 I have to say that I think it is the best all around turbo on the market. Mine is hitting 55psi, and spools like crazy. Very little lag too.

Talking

I like the super phat shaft 62 from Industrial Injection. It is a very nice turbo plus you get excellent customer service. I always have so many questions about turbos and Shane at Industrial has always helped me understand the logic and the gray area that I could not see. My vote is for the sps 62 or even maybe the silverbullet 62 !!!

I forgot to say that the sps 62 /14 80 was my choice and WOW boost rises just as quick as stock and alot more air for any given psi with the extended tip compressor wheel that is standard on the sps 62.
