Help me choose a box
2003 2500 S.O. California 235HP, 48RE.
I had a 04.5 3005 with the 6 speed and I miss the power/torque. I'd like to get back to the same power I had (325/600), but not cook my tranny.
Will a box affect the S.O. the same way it does the H.O., or is there a difference I'm missing?
Uses: Occasional towing up to 15k, but mostly town/interstate driving unloaded.
And............Begin!!

One word.. Smarty
It will make your SO the same as an 03-04 HO. You can go up from there. I think level 3 will put you around 335 rwhp. That is also the recommended safe Smarty level for stock tranny. I have same engine/tranny combo and ran around on level 5 for a long time on stock tranny with no advese affects. Smarty will open your eyes to what that SO engine can do! And get a boost fooler and boost elbow too for a little more ummph!

To be perfectly honest, I would get gauges regardless of the box/programmer you choose. Just wise and prudent to do so. You don't have to spend a lot either-- like quad commander or something that is all in one. With conservative driving, I've never gone over any egt limits and etc. with the Smarty on lvl 3. But all trucks are not the same-- you can and will have different results. I would want a tranny gauge and egt guage at the very least.

What does the COmmander do? I Read the thing in the DTR store but it doesnt say which 7 things it watches. the 2 i question is the tranny slippage and the rail pressure. those would be nice. Im shopping now

These are terms limited to 03-04 models. 04.5 and up are all HO.
A smarty will turn SO into HO in the 5 minutes it takes to download into the ecm

yes get gauges, Quadf commander is good, it's what I have, and I really like it.

Got a Smarty too, it kinks XXX !
I'd be nervous running my Smarty w/o gauges though.
