help i can't decided what performance chip to use?
Hey i have a 2004 dodge ram 2500 4x4 diesel quad cab and im lookin forward in putting a chip in my truck or boostin the horsepower in it,and im undecided if i should put a chip in it or not cause some people have told me to get some say don't cause it will ruin the transmisson,please i need help knowin the pros and cons of a performace chip or something better that will help boost the horsepower in my truck thanks

Modding a truck with a stock trans can cause problems..... The 48RE trans is much stouter than the 47RE trans but still nowhere near bulletproof! If you don't abuse things you can add around 100 RWHP and normally be OK. Personally I like the Smarty programmer.
Another option would be for you to update your trans with a better valve body and torque converter. By doing this you should be able to run <= 100 RWHP of mods and be fine.

redneck2007, With a 04 i would use a TST very good and you can control the power. When you build the trans, just turn it up more. I wish they had it for the 07 im still waiting for one just cant beat the performance and the adjustabilty.

From my experience, the smarty is great. I can only compare it to the Superchips and Diablo Predator. It is totally worth the larger price. I first went superchips, runs good, no real big power boosts, EGT's are high. The Diablo made massive power, but the EGT's were high, smoke was ridiculous (I am not a smoke lover), and the truck idles poorly. The Smarty makes the best power, smooth, and EGT's are crazy lower.
