Help....35's or 37's and still pull???

I have an 06' 3/4 ton with a 6-speed. This thing is crazy low geared as you already know.
My question is, I am wanting to put a 6 inch lift and tires on this truck, not only for looks but to help compensate for the low gears. My delima is going with 35's or 37's??
Do 35's even look O.K. with a 6 inch? (Any Pics?)

Will I struggle pulling a trailer with 37's even with the 6-speed, or is it going to gear it too high?

Will a Smarty compensate for the power loss, because I would like to get one of these in the future sometime.

I don't pull anything really heavy, maybe a med 28 foot travel trailer at the most, but majority of the time, just a 16-20 foot flatbed.

Basically before I dump a few grand into this upgrade, I want to make sure I am getting what is the right set up for me.
Thanks in advance for any input!

I'd do 35's with no lift and you should be fine as long as that travel trailer doesn't weight 30k!

I'm running 35's with a higher gear than you 3.55 vs. your 3.73 and have no problems pulling anything...

this is 35's with a pro comp 2 1/2" leveling kit and 2" blocks in the rear. if your going to be towing alot with it you might want to think about either air bags or a timbern kit to keep the rear from saging

I am wanting to put a lift on it though, maybe just a 4 inch would be better. I would honestly like to put the 37's but just don't want to go overboard.

Also you are right it has 3.73's, but I was under the impression after reading on here that the 06' 6-speeds with 3.73's are comperable gear ratio's to the 05' and unders with 4.10's.

I have 35's and the KORE Leveling Kit. That combo really put the bed rails up a few inches. If you are towing a GN it's not a problem, 5th wheel takes putting the springs above the axle, BP is just a longer drop hitch.

My rpm's are right at 2K traveling at 65-70 mph, fuel mileage got better as a result.

I considered a 4" lift, but I tow all 3 ways and it would have been a real problem with even the GN having to have the springs over the axles. So, I settled for the moot point, have the best of all worlds.

If you plan on pulling a gooseneck or 5th wheel you can run into problems with a 6" lift and 37s. With TAG type trailers you'll be fine.

You could run 37's with the 4" lift.

I was asking myself the same question when I was in the market for a lift and tires.

If I had a long bed instead of a short bed it would of been a much harder choice. I dont like how a 6" lift and 37's look on a short bed, way too short and tall, out of porportion if you ask me. Look's like your trying too hard.

But I think it would look great on a quad cab long bed or mega cab, but again it's gonna be a big difference over stock. Its gonna be a completely different truck and driving experience driving a 6" lifted CTD on 37's with a 6 speed manual. Yeah it will still work hard but it was too much of a sacrafice to be on 37's everyday.

I choose to go with the happy medium

I went with a 4.5" Superlift w/ Bilstiens, 18" Eagle Alloy 114, 35" Toyo MT's and have ZERO regrets. First off it look great not too much, and not too little. It looks just right on my QC SB. Rides great due to the Bilstiens, and the 35" Toyo wear and ride great as well. Ive got over 30K on them and I drive hard.

Adding the 35's to my truck sure took alot of passing power away and felt the extra weight and diamiter when shifting since I also have a 6 speed. I wouldnt want to imagine having 37's. The Smarty sure took care of that HP loss but you still cant get away from the extra weight, diamiter, cost and driving charistics of a 37.

My truck still rips it up with 35's and is hard to beat on the freeway once Im done shifting. I dont think it would be as fun with 37's....well maybe if I had an auto but with a 6 speed no way would I want 37's.

Going 6" lift and 37's is gonna put a hurting on your pocketbook initally and everytime you fill up and every 30K miles.

6" lift and 37's will definetly look good if you have a LB or mega but you have to ask your self it the looks are more important then overall performance and operation of your $40K diesel truck.

Yes 35's in a 6" lift will look silly

You could always start off with 4.5" lift and 35's and if you feel the 35's are inadiquete you can usually stuff 37's underneeth it if you bought the correct size rims.

Here's some pics
Still no regrets

I have 37's with a 6" lift on mine. I do not have any problems pulling with it. I usually only tow about 12 to 15k with it though. The only thing I regret is the Superlift 6" kit.

SlowSixSpeed, thanks for the info, I am leaning towards a 4-4.5 inch lift, and 35's. My neighbor has some 37's. I might just trade him wheels and tires for a week, and see how they feel. I already have 2 other "play" trucks for the mud, I need to be sensible on my main mode of transportation.

I like "7th gear":

1st w/ the G56 is now useable, and highway mileage has increased... of course, in-town economy suffers a bit - but it's worth it to sled-pull with your tow vehicle!

p.s. 37"s w/no lift, natch...

37's are perfect for the G56.
