Upon further research, the HD transmission is actually rebuilt by Tracy Industries. They have several locations nationwide. Never heard of them before!?.

Just another way for diamler to make a few extra bucks . Wouldnt waste my money or breathe on it. I guess the logical question is how does the heavy duty unit drive compared to your orginial one. Thanks.

I haven't driven it enough to really tell, but it does have noticeably firmer shifts and it doesn't feel like it is hunting between gears, which is something that the original tranny did.

I bought the truck with about 33K and the tranny blew at 44k. I don't do any heavy hauling (a boat or enclosed snowmobile trailer weighing 5-6000 lbs.) and I don't run it very hard.

I would like to know what your expereince is so far with the truck I am about to bring my truck into the dodge for the second time for the 1-2 hunting, and i can imagine if it happens once it will happen again. How do you think it compares to the stock tranny?

well by the looks of things the HD 48re is the only one available in BC right now. My truck went in today with a completey fubard trans. The parts/service counter said that once they confirm it need to be replaced the HD unit will be ordered and I do not have to pay anything. I will find out tomorrow if they are going to jerk me around or fix it. I will keep you posted.
