It's funny you ask. I am doing some research on various cars that have projector headlights. The goal is to take a set of high/low beam projectors from a vehicle and insert them into my current reflector housing. I have seen some great lighting out of some of these vehicles, even using standard halogen bulbs instead of HID. So far, everything looks like it should work. I just need to finalize which projector will work and fit the best.

With all of this being said, I find the problem with 3rd Gen lights is solely due to the reflector. So taking this out of the picture is a step forward. A good comparison is with my Durango. Same 9007 bulbs, twice the light as my Ram.

As far as the Silver Stars. They are not worth the $40. Only slight increases on low and high beams are worse. My Durango's stock bulbs put out much more visible light. I did see an improvement in the 9006 fogs though. There again, goes back to the reflector problem.

I just installed the 9007 SilverStars and it did help a little in the lighting department. This weekend I'm going to do the "Fogzilla" mod converting the 9006 to 9005 bulbs in the foglamps. I have found that just using lowbeams with foglamps on is much better than just the highbeams only.

I just got back from Best buy, they sell a 9006 and 9007 bulb, both say street legal, DOT yada yada, difference is the 9007 has a bit of a coating on the very tip of the bulb to prevent direct shine straight ahead, the 9006 is clear blueish glass all the way to the tip. Fogzilla lookout these bulbs are 100 watts each! didn't pick them up but thats because I spent 35 bux on the silverstar fogs three weeks ago and didn't want to toss another set of buls so fast. These were xeon brand I think, less than 20 bux but more than 15 for 2 bulbs, either model number. Bulbs were located near the car stereo section and they had loads on the shelf. I haven't heard of anyone with these or seen anything about them but they might be worth a shot.

I installed the painless wiring kit. It's the kind of project that just takes some time and follow the instructions. It's really not hard to do, just takes a little time.

I don't think the stock electrical system for the foglamps can handle 100w bulbs.

I was wonderin that myself, but thats about 7 amps each, 14 for the two, wonder if any of the DC guys here know the rating on that line..... and if a fuse upgrade would help, or just be an invite for disaster.

BTW, I just did the Fogzilla mod. I used Sylvania Cool Blue 9005 (65w) high beam bulbs. Wow, what a difference! Even in bright daylight doing a comparison between the stock 9006 to the 9005 against the garage door I can see the light from the 9005, but not the 9006. Can't wait to try it at night.
If you have a Dremel it's an easy 5 minute job. Also need silicone O-ring seal #114.

When you installed the painless kit did you run into any compatibility problems with the stock DC wiring or have any computer glitchs? I am wondering if the computer that controls the stock lighting might start to act funky after the installation.

BEHRMAN, the Painless lighting kit takes power straight from the battery to a relay then to the light's. The stock light wiring from the switch is then just the trigger wire for the relay. This way you get a full 13+volts to the lights instead of the 9/10volts you get from the stock lighting system as the power does not have the parasitic loss from all the wiring and switchs. This means your lights are that much brighter.

Mikey, can you tell me why the O-ring seal is needed? Is the O-ring on the 9005 bulbs different than the O-ring on the 9006?

The bulb base for the 9005 is a little smaller in diameter than the 9006. So to fill the void for a tight fit and seal a thicker o-ring is used.

Also noted at the best buy shelf was the 9007 bulb, 80 watt low 100 high beam, very decent pricing.
