It took me almost 6hrs in my driveway. But I went very slow, and did 2 heat cycles and retorques and lashed the valves. If I can handle it anyone can

Good point on lashing the vavles, while you are there you may as well go ahead and make sure all vavles are in correct adjustments.

Did you bottom tap yours?

I need to see about getin a long tap, or maybe weld a 1/4" extention on a tap like some have done.

This is a great bunch of information. It is so cool that one can stud-ify their truck w/o redoing a gasket.

Thanx people.

Wow, I just looked on e-bay for head studs. ARP's are $399 w/$15 for shipping. A small block Chevy is $130, a Buick 455 is $139. I amm learning that Diesel mods are a tad pricey. The box of Cummins head studs is probably 3x's as heavy as the gas V8's though.

I personally dont recommend not changing the gasket when changing studs. Too much chance for bad to happen IMHO. But I dont think that you need studs with a stock charger. I wouldnt worry about studs til around 50psi. I think that the stock gasket should be good (with headstuds) til around 70psi.
