Having a problem with Quad and my CB

When ever I key up the mike, it kills the engine.
When I have the CB already on and turn the ignition, I have problems with static on th CB and my SWR meter goes up as soon as the Quad box powers up. I can turn the ignition off and the SWR meter will go back down AFTER the 3 second delay of the Quad powering down after the ignition is turned off.
It is like the Quad box is emitting a signal also.

Any ideas?
My problem is that I use my truck and CB for work.

Here is a thread I started on the other forum under my name.
Quad and CB

Thanks

Here is a thread i found 9/15/05 of this forum - Quad and a Truckers Radio experience

here is one of the suggestions
I am a dealer for Quad and we have installed 3 XZT boxes that we had this problem with. They had cb's in the truck and in close proximity to the XZT and when you would key the mic it would kill the truck. If you go to radio shack ask for part number 273-104 it is called a toroid choke core. Installation is pretty self explanitory. I put two on each of the trucks and we have had no problems since.

Hope this helps

I was going to do that next. Where and which line did he install these?

Tried a few things tonight, which didn't work, and it set off code P0192 (Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Voltage).

I think these boxes need some kind of shielding.

I installed my two right before you plug the jack to the box. One for the **** wire and one on the main wire. Looped them once around on each.

Did it seem to work?

Also thought about stopping by my local electronic shop and buying some shielding tape or foil, to cover the box in. Might work?

Been cruising the highways for about 500 mile now and been around all sorts of 18 wheelers and have not had an incedent. Don't have a cb in my truck to test. I think that my first encounter was a 1 in a million deal. A true test would be to find one of those vehicles on the road that have a gazillion antennas on them about 100 feet long.

I don't think the tape is going to do it for you. wires are antena's. you can just shield the box itself you would have to filter the wires as well to 100% effective. Could be the CB you bought is noisy as hell as well. you may want to cosider shielding that as it is the source of the noise.

I would look at the poximity of your cb to the box. the closer the box is to the noise source the worse it will be. also I would instal some filtering on the box as sugested.

If I were you quad I may start looking at some small surface mount filtering sollutions if you have to revise a box. there are very cheap solutions to this. you can buy little surface mout ferite 0603 or 0805 chips and then just run a basical LC filter or something and it may eliminate this problem for .02 in part cost. there are also some just SMT filters you can buy but there are .50-.80 cent range. I know it is not really your problem but this is not the first thread I have read about this issue.

Well, I got most of it fixed. It is down to a mild fluctuation when I first key it on.
Had to use 4 snap on ferites I found at a local electronics store. The trick is, you need one on the switch line also.

The radio is a standard Cobra 29, so that shouldn't be a problem. At least not all of it. How would you go about shielding it?

The radio, having a metal case, would already be shielded, provided its negative power lead goes to a good chassis ground. That goes for the antenna, too. You may need to add ground straps from the antenna mount to the frame rails. If you have a magnet mount, I would consider a good metal to metal type mount, with a drilled mount as being the best.

As far as shielding your box, wrap in good, thick aluminum foil, and make sure it is grounded to chassis ground as well.

This problem would not effect transmission or reception on the CB, would it?

Hey I saw this on another Dodge site I belong to and saw the same problem post on this site too. Figured you guys would want to know you’re not alone in this incorrectly/poorly manufactured product that has RF interference etc. Here’s a link to it.
