Has anyone replaced their TC?

I'm considering replacing my TC for one that doesn't slip nearly so much. My question is this: do I *need* to worry about upgrading my tranny for this mod?

I have *NO* modifications to the truck - stock exhaust, stock air intake, it's not chipped. The truck is bone stock. And, for my purposes, I feel it makes more than adequate power. And when the TC is locked up, I feel like that power is getting to the ground appropriately. But, when it's not locked, well...it definitely leaves something to be desired.

I pull a 19' TT (4500lbs) in the summertime with a couple of ATV's and other camping gear in the bed (~2000lbs). That's it - that's about as heavy as I get with my truck. I don't, nor will I be towing a 10,000lb+ TT or 5er. I am also not looking to get 500+hp out of the thing. I just want the power the engine makes to get to the ground a little more efficiently.

I would appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks.

the TC will help out alot but if you want to make it work even better put a VB in too. Most will tell you to go with the same shop for both.

changing out your tc will help in the efficency of transferring the power from your engine to the wheel but just a tc alone will not reall help with the slip in the tc. the vb is what supplys the pressure for the tc to stay locked up and with out that pressure the tc will slip. so i suggest that you go with a tc and vb. i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong in my statements.

A triple disk is night and day difference, but you will need a VB too. But you will notice a big difference. When you hit lock up it is awesome.

Just to clarify, my TC isn't slipping when it's locked up. My disappointment is that it's so loose *before* it locks up.

I agree that a triple-disc is the best that money can buy. But, based on what I've read and the research I've done, I think a triple-disc would be overkill for what I do with the truck. I'm thinking I can get away with running something a little less bullet-proof and it would still suit me fine. Would I still *need* a VB if I go with anything other than a stock TC?

Here's a link to the best transmission person I know of wwwgbtransmissions.com He will only sell you what you need and nothing more. No salesman pressure, he even gives free advice if you went with someone else or if you go with someone else. His name is Dave. Just click on the link.

I would do the VB first. Its cheaper and in my truck it made a huge difference in the way the stock converter feels. have the VB setup for a real firm lockup. That should help out alot. Im holding about 375 HP to the wheels right now without any problems. I have my box turned down 99% of the time.

Yeah, talk to Dave Goerend. Great guy. Tell him what you plan on doing with the truck and he'll tell you what you need. Thats what I did.
The first thing I did to the truck was putting in a tighter TC. I couldn't stand to see to tach go to 2k before moving, and barely dropping from 3k at WOT between shifts.
I've had his TC for 2 years now and I love it. It starts pulling from about 1500rpms, stalls at about 1900 at WOT with stock power and at 2200 with the quad on 100hp. You'll love the rpms actually dropping between shifts !
Well worth the money if you ask me. Dave has very reasonable prices.
I don't have a VB and haven't noticed and slip in the TC or tranny, but I don't tow at all so Dave might recommend one for your application. Just call him, he won't try to sell you a VB if he thinks you don't need one.

Thanks very much for all the helpful replies and info. I'll try to give Dave Goerend a call next week. This is not the first time I've read of his excellent reputation.
