I have a friend that has an 06 CTD. He is having hard start issues in the mornings when cold. Took it to the dealer and they said it would cost $8000 to fix!!!!!!!!!! (and they would not tell him what they wanted to replace) He has an edge on it and nothing else. Isn't there a flash for hard starts? it only happens when it is cold and after it warms up, it starts like normal.

sounds like the injectors are bleeding down over night he can get the tips replaced and the injectors fixed (if needed) for less that 2 grand

Tell him never to go back to that dealership.
ANY SERVICE CENTER should provide in writing backup as to what they feel the issue is, and their estimate for repairs. It's "OK" for them to indicate that the scope may change based upon what they find, or that the time may go up (usually not down). If they truly wouldn't tell him what was wrong but just that they wanted $8k they can screw off...

That is what I told him. Told him i could do a full fuel system, injectors and modded CP3 and run away giggling like a school girl making money! We are thinking it is injectors.
