Gutting the stock muffler
I was cruising the TDR at lunch today and somebody posted about drilling a bunch of holes through the guts of the stock muffler. Said it sounds great. Wondering if anyone here tried this yet? Might give me a change to try out my new 24" drill bits.

Never heard of that method before, but I did hear of one guy on the TDR that sawed his muffler off near the end, torched all the baffles and removed them, then re-welded the case back together. I guess it would work as long as you could find a shop willing to do it and could do it right.

Wouldn't it suck if you did it and didn't like it? Now you would be stuck with a bad sound unless you had the foresite to have another muffler just in case. I wouldn't do it! Just buy another muffler..... I'll sell you mine.........

From what I've read here, you might need to apply some torch heat, release the clamp and tail pipe hangers and apply some hammer touch. It should twist out if your lucky, if not then I hear a sawsall works good. KS

I had to Sawzall mine off. The person that put the exaust on at the factory musta been a gorilla. the pipe was collapsed 1/4 inch from the clamp. No chance of coming off.
Anyway, I cut the whole system off at the end of the cab just before the muffler. Like running open headers in a way. Sounds great, and still is relatively quiet at idle.

Actually, I'm considering stacks in the bed. I am getting no odor in the cab as of yet.
Tell you what, that turbo screams. After cooldown, and shut down, you can hear it spool down for like 5 secs.
