Gutting stock 305HO muffler = EGT drop?
I'm debating between gutting my stock muffler on my 03-HO or getting a Donaldson/Nelson replacement. I really want to do the latter, but I've heard a story over at TDR where somebody's drivetrain warranty was voided because that person had obvious intake and exhaust modifications. (IMHO, that sucks as the EGTs are significantly reduced and there's not any big increases in power output)
Anyways, has anyone of you gutted the stock muffler on your 305HO and directly measured a decrease in EGT? If there's not alot to be gained EGT-wise with this, then I probably chance the muffler upgrade.
Thanks for your response.

I find it hard to believe that Dodge voided the warranty because of an aftermarket intake and muffler.
I put the 51" Nelson muffler on, (got it from Cummins Nothwest for $63.00) with a 4" x 6' x 24" Stainless Steel tip from Rip.

Well, I'm in agreement with you, but that's what the guy said about the warranty situation. It's possible he ticked-off the service manager and that person in return screwed him over.
Also, I've seen your Donaldson installation in other posts, and if I go that route, I'll be duplicating yours or hlclmr's 34" version. Thanks.

I don't think you are getting the full version of why his warranty restricted, seems fishy that a warranty could be restricted for just an exhaust? but you never know these days! Someone needs to pull the warranrty on those civics that run around @ 8000rpm with an old coffee can for exhaust! Makes me wish I still had my trusty 10.0 sec 5.0 with open exhaust just to show these guy's what horsepower is supposed to sound like!!!!
