If you do it I would put a piece of 4" thru it, Cat's are known to sound horrible when gutted.

I did mine and it made it a little louder and it makes it smell like a diesel should. Anyone that knows anything about diesels will know right away that the cat is not intact, just by the smell. I didn't line the cat with a straight pipe. I don't think it makes any difference in the sound (lined or just gutted), though I could be wrong. I have since purchased a used cat and it is now back on. Trust me on this, I didn't get anymore mpg without it. I would advise against gutting your cat. You don't get anything for it and you will be found out at smog testing. Also, I believe they give the cat a tap when you smog. You can tell the difference in the sound. In my opinion, I would just leave it alone. Oh, by the way these things go for close to $1000, I was lucky to get one used for $250.

I agree, unless your running a bit more fuel than stock just leave it, its not a hinderance to anything but the time required at idle to cool the turbo (at least that the only thing I noticed).

Mine is in the attic becuase I was worried about plugging it with added fuel.

The CAT is four figures to have to buy. Don't waste it. Use flanges or band clamps and it can be a quick change out to go back and forth to a straight section. I did a straight section all the way to the muffler and it is not too hard to switch back when and if needed.

Depending on the level of emissions testing it may not pass a snap idle test without it.

Definitely smells different.

Thanks guys.

My plan is to... Get a tuner and some injectors. Not anytime soon but its on the road map.

Jegs has a nice 4in pipe for 24bucks guess I can pick that up and take it to a exhaust shop have them pull the cat out n bag it for me. Keep it closed up with clamps.

Tap on an empty cat with a hammer, and it sounds like "The Dong Show" from the 70's.

I'd remove the cat and put it on a shelf in case the emissions testing has to be done.

Wow, now I have to make a post, been just reading everything from time to time.

Deleting the CAT has made the most difference of anything I have done. It made a dramatic difference in low end throttle response.

It is a bit noisy now when you step on it with just the Aeroturbo muffler, but settles down once you reach speed.

My CAT is in the garage. We don't have emissions testing now, but who knows ....

If you noticed your cat missing then it was probably plugged. A cat in good working order doesn't effect a thing and is only reported to cost 2-4 rwhp.

I realize that I have read that several times, but oh man, what a difference.

One of my friends has the same 06 I have but in mega cab and he said the same thing as I did.

It made a big difference.

I am now thinking the factory muffler would probably have been ok had I removed the CAT first ....

Sure wish I had cheap access to a dyno!
